Man Convicted Of Triggering Crash With Stolen Stove That Killed L.A. County Deputy Sentenced To 16 Years To Life
A 41-year-old man who allowed a stolen stove to fly off the back of his pickup truck on the 91 Freeway in Anaheim, triggering a crash that killed a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy, was sentenced Friday to 16 years to life in prison, authorities said. Cole Allen Wilkins, of Long Beach, was found guilty last month of second-degree murder in connection to the fatal July 2006 crash, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Man Fatally Shot In Wilmington
A 19-year-old man was shot to death Saturday while attending a party in Wilmington, authorities said. It happened about 1:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of West Cruces Street, the Los Angeles Police Department said. Coroner's officials identified the victim as Alex Zepeda of Wilmington.

Man In 70s Shot To Death On His Front Lawn
Gunshots sent a quiet Van Nuys neighborhood into chaos Sunday and police are now searching for the killer of a 73-year-old man. Dick Boyd was watching football just before 11 a.m. when he heard the shots a few doors down. “The shots were extremely loud. Five shots in a row,” Boyd said. “It was bam, bam, bam, bam, bam.”

Two Men Shot, Wounded Standing Outside Northridge Building
Two men were shot and wounded by two suspects as they stood outside a building in Northridge Saturday morning, according to Los Angeles police. The shootings took place at 5:45 a.m. in the 19100 block of Napa Street, according to LAPD Officer Irma Mota.

Los Angeles police are searching for clues after a late-night stabbing Saturday in the community of Van Nuys left two men attending a birthday party injured, authorities said. The stabbing was reported around 11 p.m. Saturday in the 7000 block of Van Nuys Boulevard, LAPD Officer Irma Mota said on Sunday.

Pot Dispensary Security Guard Shoots At Robbers In South Los Angeles, Police Say
A security guard at a South Los Angeles marijuana dispensary opened fire on a group of robbers Saturday night, sending one man to the hospital, police said. Around 7:45 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting at a pot shop near the corner of West Slauson Avenue and South Figueroa Street, said LAPD Sgt. Thomas Bojorquez.

Man Allegedly Exposes Himself To Girl As She Was Walking From South L.A. School
A man allegedly exposed himself to and tried to lure an 8-year-old girl as she was walking to her grandmother's house from a South L.A. school earlier this week, the girl's mother told KTLA. The incident occurred about 3 p.m. on Wednesday as the girl was walking from Knox Elementary School, 8919 S Main St., the school principal said in a letter sent out to parents.

Rocks, Crowbar Used To Break Into 7 West Valley Businesses
Los Angeles police said they are investigating a rash of commercial burglaries that occurred in the West Valley early Sunday. The incidents occurred at various restaurants and a dry cleaner's on Ventura Boulevard and Tampa Avenue between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, said Sgt. Amid a heat wave that could make West Nile virus more likely to spread, the number of people infected with the disease in Los Angeles County continued to climb this week. At least 230 people in L.A. County have fallen sick with West Nile this year, and 17 of them have died, health officials said Friday.
