Pacoima Woman Sentenced To 15 Years To Life For LAPD Officer's Sun Valley Traffic Death
A Pacoima woman who was under the influence of cocaine when she crashed her SUV into an LAPD motorcycle officer, who had dedicated his career to taking drunken drivers off the road, was sentenced today to 15 years to life in state prison. Superior Court Judge Richard Kirschner imposed the term on Qaneak Shaney Cobb, 37, who pleaded no contest to second-degree murder on Oct.19.

The funeral for South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Keith Rebman Jr. began promptly at 2 p.m. Sunday. Hundreds of people sat in Founder's Memorial Amphitorium at Bob Jones University as the lights dimmed and a video began to play.

A San Bernardino County sheriff's sergeant has been critically injured but is expected to survive after being stabbed several times while responding to a 911 call. Sheriff John McMahon says the sergeant responded Monday morning to a call in Rancho Cucamonga after a man told dispatchers he had been abducted.

Driver Sought In South L.A. Hit-And-Run That Killed 76-Year-Old Man: LAPD
Police are asking for help identifying a driver who they say abandoned his vehicle and fled after allegedly fatally hitting a 76-year-old pedestrian in South Los Angeles Sunday night. The victim, Herman Charles Avery Jr., was crossing Western Avenue when he was struck by a westbound vehicle, according to a Los Angeles Police Department news release.

Skateboarder Shot, Killed In Arleta
Authorities Monday sought public help to find whoever fatally shot a skateboarder in Arleta. The crime occurred about 3:40 p.m. Sunday in the 9900 block of Stanwin Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The wounded man, who was in his 20s, died at a hospital, the coroner's office reported.

Here's What The LAPD Wants Baseball Fans To Know Before Game 6 Of The World Series
Attending Game 6 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium? Los Angeles police have laid out some ground rules. Even though Tuesday is Halloween, baseball fans won't be allowed inside with masks or toy weapons. Also, there's no tailgating allowed at the stadium. From 6 a.m. to midnight Tuesday and Wednesday, parking is prohibited in the following areas: Stadium Way between Academy Road and Scott Avenue, Academy Road between Morton Avenue and Stadium Way, and Scott Avenue between Boylston Street and Elysian Park Drive.

Pedestrian Killed In Athens Area Of South LA Is Identified
A 55-year-old pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle and killed in the South Los Angeles area was identified today by the coroner's office. Modesto Reyes Lopez was hit about 5:45 a.m. Monday at 126th and Figueroa streets, the coroner's office and the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

California Prisoners Could Vote Under New Measure
California would allow prisoners to vote under a proposed new statewide initiative . Secretary of State Alex Padilla on Monday informed proponents they can begin gathering signatures for the November 2018 ballot initiative that would eliminate restrictions on preregistering to vote.

Proposed Initiative Would End Early Release For Some Crimes, Allow More DNA Collection
A coalition including police officers and prosecutors on Monday proposed a California state initiative that would end early release of rapists and child traffickers and expand the number of crimes for which authorities could collect DNA samples from those convicted. The ballot measure is sponsored by the California Public Safety Partnership, and would reverse some elements of Proposition 47, which was approved by voters in 2014 and reduced some crimes deemed nonviolent from a felony to a misdemeanor. “A Whittier police officer was recently murdered by a parolee who had violated parole five times,” said Los Angeles Police Protective League President Craig Lally, who supports the initiative.
