Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder Of Texas Deputy
A Houston deputy is recovering from surgery after a man shot him during a disturbance call on Sunday. The Houston Chronicle reports that Deputy Constable Justin Gay, 30, successfully underwent an 18-hour surgery on Monday. The officer had surgery on both of his legs to treat the gunshot wounds he sustained.

Police: Man Shoots 2 Georgia Officers; Later Found Dead
Authorities say a man shot two police officers and was later found dead behind a home south of Atlanta. Forest Park police Maj. Chris Matson told WSB-TV that Jacob Bailey's body was found behind a home in the city of Forest Park near where two police officers were shot Wednesday morning. Matson didn't say how Bailey died.

2 Young Men Killed In Carson Triple Fatal Crash ID'd As LAPD Officer's Sons
Two young men who were killed in a triple fatal crash over the weekend in Carson have been identified as the sons of a veteran Los Angeles Police Department officer, according to a fundraising page set up Wednesday for the family. hristopher Baxter, 26, and Jonathan Baxter, 23, died after a two-car collision at Del Amo and Avalon boulevards around 2:20 a.m. Sunday, the Daily Breeze reported.

Skid Row Terror: Three Victims Shot In Hail Of Gunfire
The mean streets of Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles got a lot meaner for three victims who were shot and wounded in an area where homeless people's tents line sidewalks each night. The shooting, which was believed to be gang-related, was reported Wednesday night in the area of Seventh and San Pedro streets, according to Officer Sal Ramirez of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Suspect Involved In No-Hit Shooting Barricaded Inside Supermarket
A suspect involved in a no-hit shooting ran into a supermarket in Cheviot Hills Wednesday and somehow escaped the perimeter and remains at large. Police responded about 5:20 p.m. to the scene in the 9800 block of National Boulevard, near Manning Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A man was arrested for possible sexual assault on Wednesday in Van Nuys after he initially refused to leave an apartment, prompting a call to the SWAT team, authorities said. The crime was reported about 6:30 a.m. in the 14200 block of Friar Street, said Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Manny Martinez.

Backpack Bomb Threat In Brentwood Park Deemed A Hoax; Man In Custody, LAPD Says
A Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad cleared the scene after being sent Wednesday to a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in the Brentwood Park area, authorities said. LAPD Officer Irma Mota said “miscellaneous items only” were found after the bomb squad wrapped up around 10:30 a.m. on the 11600 block of San Vicente Boulevard.

Family Of Pastor Killed In Hit-And-Run Pained That Suspect Bailed Out Of Jail
Herman Avery's family is frustrated and angry that the man they say killed their loved one — following a hit-and-run crash — is out of jail on bail tonight. On October 29, Avery had just parked and was heading to another church he was supposed to visit. Sadly, the last moments of his life were caught on security video. The LAPD says Avery was crossing Western Avenue at 82nd in Inglewood and then a car hit him in the middle of the street.

Authorities Take Burglary, Carjacking Suspect Into Custody After High-Speed Pursuit Through Antelope Valley
A man who led authorities on a high-speed pursuit through the Antelope Valley has been taken into custody after getting out of his car in a residential area in Palmdale and tripping, aerial video showed. The driver was apparently wanted for burglary and had a warrant out for an arrest when he carjacked a person in North Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

How California Ranks In The Nation's Opioid Epidemic
With the nation in the grip of a deadly opioid crisis, California seems to have been spared to some degree when compared with many other states. But the human toll it has taken on the most populous state is still staggering. California ranks No. 1 when it comes to the raw number of drug-overdose deaths — more than 4,600 victims in 2015, a trend primarily driven by opioids.

New Restrictions For LA Tour Buses Address Noise, Safety Issues
Tour bus operators in Los Angeles will face new route and noise restrictions under two motions approved Tuesday by the Los Angeles City Council. One motion directs the city attorney to draft an ordinance requiring the use of headphones for passengers on all tour buses rather than using loudspeakers, and the other instructs city staff to report on which streets are unsafe for tour buses to drive, al ong with a request that the city attorney report on how to adopt the list of unsafe streets either through a resolution or ordinance.

Street Vending Legal In LA? No More Peddler Deportation
Legal street vending was a step closer to reality in Los Angeles Thursday after two key City Council committees approved a permitting program. The new program still faces a number of governmental hoops before it would take effect, but it would end the city's distinction as the nation's only major municipality that bans vending from local sidewalks.

Lavish parties and a legendary owner are what originally put the Playboy mansion on the map, but the gated property in Holmby Hills could become a historic-cultural monument in a measure introduced at Tuesday night's Los Angeles City Council meeting. The motion , introduced by Councilman Paul Koretz and seconded by Councilman Bob Blumenfield, would limit the modifications that could be made to the estate and prevent the mansion from being demolished without city approval.
