Police: Baltimore Detective Shot In Head; Manhunt Underway
A homicide detective with the Baltimore police force was shot in the head Wednesday while working in a troubled area of the city grappling with high crime rates. Outside the hospital where the gravely wounded 18-year veteran was fighting for his life, Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said a manhunt was underway for a "cold, callous killer" who shot the detective who was "just doing his job."

South L.A. Man Charged With Threats Against Sheriff's Deputies And Others At Inglewood Courthouse
A South Los Angeles man was arrested by federal authorities Wednesday for allegedly making a series of online threats to kill law enforcement personnel and others at the Inglewood courthouse, a nearby school and a private business. John Patrice Hale, 42, who used the online moniker “Frost K Blizzard,” made the threats using techniques such as Tor and proxy servers designed to make his internet posts anonymous, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

Amber Alert: 15-Month-Old Allegedly Abducted By Father, Possibly In Mexico ?Authorities asked the public Wednesday to be on the lookout for a 15-month-old boy allegedly abducted in Boyle Heights by his father. Noe Reyna is believed to have been taken by 35-year-old Carlos Reyna, who does not have custody rights, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Man Shot By Police In Van Nuys Dies; 2 In Custody
A man who was shot by LAPD in Van Nuys Wednesday has died, and two people are in custody, authorities said. The incident was reported about 4 p.m. near the intersection of Kester Avenue and Sherman Way. LAPD were following a possible stolen vehicle when the occupants inside allegedly fired gunshots at a police vehicle.

Police Search Westlake For Man In Connection With Homicide Case; Nearby Schools On Temporary Lockdown
Three school campuses were briefly locked down Wednesday morning as police in the western part of west of downtown Los Angeles chased a suspect wanted in connection with a killing. A joint FBI and LAPD task force was following a suspect when he “dumped his car in an alley and fled on foot” around 9:25 a.m., said Det. Ross Nemeroff, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.

Victim Killed In South LA Shooting: Police Look For Clues
Authorities Wednesday identified a man who was fatally shot in South Los Angeles. The crime occurred about 6:15 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of East 46th Street, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im. Brandon Kelly, 33, of Los Angeles died at a hospital, the coroner's office reported.

Large Amounts Of Marijuana Stolen In North Hollywood Takeover Robbery
Two males and two females took large amounts of marijuana and cash as well as a security guard's handgun in what police called a "takeover robbery" of a marijuana dispensary in North Hollywood Wednesday. The suspects used a rifle and two handguns to carry out the robbery at 9:51 p.m. in the 11700 block of Vose Street, near Lankershim Boulevard, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im said.

Former Sherman Oaks Restaurateur Sentenced To Jail For Hiding Camera In Women's Restroom
A former Sherman Oaks restaurateur was sentenced Wednesday to 90 days in jail for hiding a small video camera in the women's restroom of his now-defunct eatery. Bahram Javaherian, who co-owned Cucina Bene in the 4500 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, also was ordered to serve three years of summary probation, undergo counseling and register as a sex offender for life, according to the City Attorney's Office.

Judge Ordered Gunman To Surrender Weapons Before He Killed Wife And Hid Body Under Their Rancho Tehama Home
A rampaging gunman killed five people in Rancho Tehama, including his wife, whose body was found hidden beneath the floor of their home, authorities said Wednesday. At a morning news conference, Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston said that Kevin Janson Neal, 44, likely began Tuesday's rampage after killing his wife with several gunshots and hiding her body beneath the floor of their home.

NYPD Recruit, 23, Dies Of Leukemia An NYPD recruit who was sworn in on July died after a short battle with leukemia early Tuesday. The New York Daily News reports that Jake Siciliano, 23, died a month after he was admitted to the hospital. Siciliano was diagnosed with the deadly disease just three months into his training.

Underserved LA commmunities Get Almost $10 Million In Funding For Water Needs
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors accepted a $9.8 million state grant Tuesday to be used for water quality and conservation planning efforts in disadvantaged or underrepresented communities. Supervisor Hilda Solis said the money would be used in 33 neighborhoods in the First District, which she represents, ranging from Boyle Heights to Pomona.
