Line of Duty Danger
An LAPD officer remains hospitalized following a crash on the 405 freeway when a suspected drunk driver plowed into the officer's car as he was stopping another driver. that driver booked on driving under the influence. The NBC 4 I-Team is looking into how often officers are actually in harm's way, and what all drivers can do to prevent future tragedies. The I-Team found last year was the deadliest for officers accidentally killed in six years according to an FBI report.

Indiana Trooper Shot In Head During Traffic Stop
An Indiana State Police trooper shot during a traffic stop Tuesday night has been identified, along with the suspect now accused of attempted murder. ISP Trooper Morgenn Evans made a traffic stop near the intersection of Park and Jefferson streets in Jeffersonville around 7:05 p.m., according to a news release.

Missing Florida K-9 Found Dead
A Charlotte County Sheriff's Office K9 found dead after being missing since Saturday appears to have died after being hit by a car, preliminary necropsy results show. K9 Edo had been discovered missing around 8 p.m. Saturday from his kennel in his handler's garage near the area of Cranberry Boulevard and Tamiami Trail, the sheriff's office announced on social media.

Driver Arrested After LAPD Officer Seriously Injured In 405 Freeway Crash; DUI Suspected: CHP
A 34-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after a Los Angeles police officer was struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop on the 405 Freeway in the West L.A. according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash occurred on the northbound freeway just south of Santa Monica Boulevard about 11:45 p.m. Monday, according to a California Highway Patrol's news release.

Woman Leads Police On High-Speed Chase In Stolen Minivan
A woman led polic e on a chase in a stolen van Tuesday morning from the West Los Angeles area, where her passenger got out, to Downtown Los Angeles, where the woman rolled out of the van before she was taken into custody.

Arrest Made In Fatal Westlake District Carjacking
Police say they've made an arrest Tuesday in a violent carjacking that killed a man in the Westlake District. The carjacking was reported at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of South Carondelet Street, near MacArthur Park, Los Angeles police said.

Jewelry Thief Targets San Pedro Neighborhood For Months
Authorities sought the public's help Tuesday in identifying a jewel thief wanted in a series of residential burglaries that occurred since October in San Pedro. The first burglary occurred in the daytime on Oct. 27 when a suspect pulled a screen off a window of a residence in the 600 block of Oliver Street.

Los Angeles detectives said Tuesday they are investigating a woman's claim that Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski molested her in 1975, when she was 10 years old. But the allegations are so old that criminal charges couldn't be brought, even if proven.

LA Deputies Make Girl's Christmas Tree Wish Come True
A young girl's wish to get a Christmas tree for the holidays came true thanks to L.A. County Sheriff's deputies. KNBC reports that deputies were called to the neighborhood where 11-year-old Andrea Rodriguez lives. While on the road, Rodriguez flagged them down and asked about a program the department had for families in need during the holidays. Rodriguez's father is the only person in her household who works.

California Officers Make Arrest In 37-Year-Old Cold Case Killing
Antioch police announced Monday that they have arrested a suspect in the 1980 kidnapping and killing of a teenager whose story briefly jolted the nation and roiled a quiet East Bay suburb. Mitchell Lynn Bacom, 63, of Antioch was arrested just before 5 p.m. Monday for allegedly kidnapping 14-year-old Suzanne Bombardier while she was babysitting her nieces on a summer night 37 years ago and killing her.

LAFD Captain With 24 Years Of Service Dies While Off Duty
A Los Angeles Fire Department captain was off-duty when he died on Sunday, officials said. Officials announced the death of LAFD Capt. II Keith Stewart on Tuesday morning via Twitter saying “his loss will be felt throughout the LAFD.” LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart, who said she is not related to the captain, said he was an active member of the fire department but was off-duty when the death occurred.

Authorities are nearing full containment Wednesday of the week-old Skirball Fire, which was determined to have been caused by "an illegal cooking fire" at a homeless encampment in a brush area next to where Sepulveda Boulevard crosses under the San Diego (405) Freeway.

LA Approves Funding For Mobile Bathroom Program Amid Concerns About Hepatitis A
The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to move forward with an experimental six-month program to station four mobile restrooms around the city in an effort to stem Hepatitis A cases among the homeless population. City leaders will test out the program, which is modeled after a San Francisco one known as “mobile pit stop,” at four “high-priority” sites: Venice, Wilmington, South Park and the southeast portion of downtown Los Angeles.
