California LEOs Lose Homes While Responding To Wildfire
As they worked this week to save lives, firefighters and police officers in Paradise had their own personal fear in the back of their minds: Will my home survive the onslaught of the Camp Fire? For many, the unfortunate answer is no. The massive wind-whipped fire that roared through Butte mountain towns and hamlets on Thursday appears to have spared little, including homes owned by Cal Fire crews, Paradise police and county sheriff's deputies. Paradise Mayor Jody Jones confirmed on Sunday that 17 Paradise police officers lost their homes in the Thursday inferno.

North Carolina Officer Killed In Crash While Pursuing Robbery Suspect
The last time one of the city's police officers died in the line of duty, Jared William Franks was a child. That was 17 years ago. On Saturday night, Franks had been with the Greensboro Police Department just over two years when he joined other units in tracking down a robbery suspect, a pursuit that began in the 2700 block of Randleman Road. But when he burst onto the scene, Franks' vehicle struck another police car and was sent careening through a nearby yard and into a house. The house was occupied at the time, but no one was hurt. Most Californians Who Own ‘Assault Rifles' Have 10+ Guns
The AR-15 has been called “America's rifle,” a weapon emblematic of our national gun culture. But a new survey finds that in the country's most populous state, a small contingent of hardcore collectors own the vast majority of ARs and other so-called assault rifles. The research, published by the Violence Prevention Research Center at the University of California-Davis, found that four out of five assault rifles in the state are owned by people who own 10 or more guns. In total, the results suggest Californians own nearly a million assault rifles — or about 5 percent of all guns in the state. That's roughly in line with national estimates of gun ownership.
