Two suspects are being sought after a woman on a motorized scooter was shot and killed in the Green Meadows neighborhood of Los Angeles Tuesday night. The shooting was reported shortly after 10 p.m. near the intersection of South Central Avenue and East 90th Street. Arriving officers located a woman on a motorized scooter with gunshot wounds, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. She was described only as a woman in her 60s. According to witnesses, the victim was talking with a group of people when two males approached them and opened fire, the spokesperson said. The gunmen fled the scene after the shooting. No suspect descriptions were available and no possible motive for the shooting was released. KTLA 5

Man Shot To Death Outside Of JW Marriott Hotel In Downtown LA, Police Say
A man was found shot to death outside of the JW Marriott hotel on Olympic Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles, police say. Investigators tell Eyewitness News they received a call about a shooting at the hotel just before 5 a.m. Tuesday. The victim, who is believed to be about 20 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the suspects fled in a white SUV, though details regarding an exact make and model were not immediately released. A description of the suspects was also not immediately available. On Tuesday morning, the area surrounding the hotel's entrance was blocked off as police conducted its investigation. A white Rolls-Royce car was seen outside of the hotel getting towed around 9:30 a.m. and appears to be part of the investigation. Meanwhile, LAPD says it's investigating the incident as a homicide. Security Guard Injured After “Juvenile Mob" Converges On Howard Hughes Center In Westchester
Authorities detained four people after a "juvenile mob" gathered at The Promenade at the Howard Hughes Center in Westchester Saturday evening, where they injured a security guard. According to Los Angeles Police Department, more than 100 juveniles gathered at The Promenade, the popular outdoor restaurant and shopping location on 6081 Center Drive, without any parental supervision at around 10 p.m. Before officers arrived, some of the group allegedly injured a security guard working in the area. "After detaining four individuals for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon," the LAPD tweeted. They did not disclose what the deadly weapon used was. The reason for the gathering was unknown. Some officers were ordered to stay at the location to ensure that the peace was not disturbed any further.CBS 2

DA Gascón Announces Three Men Charged In Series Of Daytime Robberies
Los Angeles County DA George Gascón announced Tuesday that three men were going to be charged for a series of daytime robberies that have been committed over the past five months. The series of robberies include the pistol whipping of an older shopper in the 99 Ranch Market parking lot in Rowland Heights. Dangelo Thomas is being charge with 12 counts of second-degree robbery and three counts of elder abuse. Demoriye Watts is being charged with six counts of second-degree robbery and one count of elder abuse. Eric Burham is being charged with one count of second-degree robbery. Both Thomas and Watts are facing special allegations of personally using a firearm during the robberies. "These brazen crimes – all of which occurred during the day – are deeply troubling. The victims had their sense of safety shattered," said DA Gascón in a statement. "The majority of the people victimized were from the Asian American Community and I know that this has caused significant community trauma. I hope that all of those who have been impacted by this spree of violence sleep better tonight knowing that those who caused harm will be held accountable." NBC 4

LA Council Appropriates Funds To Address Human Trafficking In East Hollywood
The Los Angeles City Council appropriated $100,000 Tuesday toward an LAPD task force to address what Councilman Mitch O'Farrell described as an uptick in human trafficking and prostitution near schools, daycares and residential properties along Santa Monica Boulevard and Western Avenue in East Hollywood. O'Farrell filed a motion last week to request the funding, which would be appropriated from his office's budget. It would provide what his office described as a “services-led approach” for women being trafficked. A speaker who identified himself as Lionel Mares told the council Tuesday that he was worried the money would be used to further criminalize sex work. “Many of these women go online, so they're always going to find ways to do their work,” Mares said. “So the city's just wasting money on this rather than investing money on programs that will prevent it from happening in the first place.” O'Farrell responded by calling the remarks “misunderstanding and disinformation,” claiming that the task force's goal was to help victims of human trafficking. Pacoima Woman Sentenced For Drug Trafficking, Distributing To Marines
A Pacoima woman was sentenced Tuesday to six months in home detention for her role in a drug trafficking ring that distributed narcotics — including oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl — to civilians and members of the U.S. Marine Corps, one of whom suffered a fatal overdose. Jessica Sarah Perez, 25, was also handed two years of federal probation, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. She pleaded guilty in January to a federal charge of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. Perez admitted that as a member of the conspiracy, she received purported oxycodone pills containing fentanyl and other drugs from a co-defendant, and sold the narcotics to civilian customers. Perez and four others — including two active-duty Marines — were charged two years ago in a 14-count indictment filed in Los Angeles federal court. FOX 11

Search Underway For Compton Man Who's Gone Missing Before
Sheriff's detectives Monday were looking for a 78-year-old Compton man who suffers from dementia and has gone missing before. Alvin Hall was last seen at about 4 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of South Amantha Avenue, said Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff's Information Bureau. “Mr. Hall has a history of going missing and has previously been found at Gladys Park in Los Angeles,” Koerner said. Hall is described as Black, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 180 pounds, bald, with brown eyes and was last seen wearing a green shirt, blue jeans and blue loafers. He suffers from dementia, high blood pressure and diabetes and his family is concerned for his well-being, Koerner said. Gunman Walks Up To Cruiser, Fires Shotgun At Texas Officer's Head
A person with shotgun walked up to a parked police car northeast of Dallas and fired a shotgun at an officer's head early Friday. A second officer in the car fired back, wounding the gunman. The two police officers in the small city of Sachse were taken to a hospital where they were treated and released. The gunman underwent surgery. Sachse police did not release any information about possible motives for the attack. Sachse is about 60 miles from Fort Worth in Collin and Dallas counties. “It's frightening,” Sachse Mayor Jeff Bickerstaff said in a phone interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “But we are very thankful that are officers are safe.” The shooting occurred at about 12:05 a.m. Friday in the parking lot of Medpost Urgent Care, 7760 Texas 78 in Sachse. The officers were sitting in a police vehicle at the scene of an unrelated call for service. While completing that work, the person approached the driver side of the car and fired through the window. The officer sitting in the driver side seat was struck in the head from the shotgun blast, Sachse police said. Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Watch: Atlanta Officers Jump Into Lake To Arrest Fleeing Murder Suspect
Camera footage caught the moment Atlanta police officers apprehended a fleeing suspect wanted for murder and vehicular theft. WSB-TV2 reported that the officers saw a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier in the month. The driver, Jetarvius Q. Thompson, 21, had previously fled from police. However, thanks to the Aviation Unit, the suspect was located and followed from the sky. In the footage, Thompson gets out of the vehicle and flees into a wooded area. He manages to make his way to a lake, where he swam trying to get away from the officers. Instead, officers jumped into the lake after Thompson, apprehending and arresting him before he made it to the other side. Thompson was arrested on a number of charges, including reckless driving, obstruction, fleeing and eluding police and driving without a license. He had a warrant out for murder in 2017 and another for cruelty toward children. PoliceOne

Video: Lifeguards Rescue 3 Men Caught In Rip Current Off Venice Beach
Three Los Angeles County lifeguards lived up to their name on Tuesday when they rescued three men who had been caught in a rip current off Venice Beach. Video of the incident shows the men swimming just yards offshore, but large waves and the strong current prevented them from making their way back to the beach. Eventually, the lifeguards help the visibly exhausted men back to dry land. It's likely that the tides were affected by Hurricane Kay, which is headed north up the coast of Baja California. KTLA 5

Fire Erupts At Commercial Building In Boyle Heights, Prompts Massive Response From Firefighters
A massive fire erupted Monday afternoon at a commercial building in Boyle Heights, prompting a multi-agency response from more than 180 firefighters. The blaze was reported shortly after 2 p.m. at a single-story structure in the 2800 block of East 11th Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Intense flames quickly burned through the roof of the building and sent a towering column of thick black smoke into the air above the Eastside. LAFD firefighters attacked the fire on the ground and from atop multiple aerial ladders. Los Angeles County Firefighters also responded to the scene. A nearby 99 Cents Only Store was evacuated as a precaution. "All firefighters operating in defensive mode (fighting the fire from the exterior)," the LAFD said in a statement at 2:30 p.m. As of 4 p.m., "five occupancies in this one-story row of commercials" had burned. Firefighters Quickly Knock Down Overnight Brush Fire In Chatsworth Area
An intense heat wave blanketing the Southland has increased the threat of wildfires. On Sunday, a brush fire erupted in the Chatsworth area around 2:30 a.m. near the 118 Freeway and Rocky Peak Road. Crews both on the ground and in the air worked to stop the fire from spreading. The fire burned at least two acres. Firefighters were expected to monitor the area for any hotspots.  CBS 2

City Council Officially Appoints Heather Hutt As Interim 10th District Councilmember
The Los Angeles City Council officially appointed Heather Hutt to serve the vacant councilmember seat for the 10th District of Los Angeles. Hutt will fill the open seat left by suspended councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas, who was indicted on federal corruption chargers last October. Unless Ridley-Thomas is acquitted or the charges against him in his federal corruption case are dismissed, or unless the vacancy becomes permanent, Hutt will serve as Hutt's . The council voted 12-2 to appoint Hutt, with council members Monica Rodriguez and Mike Bonin dissenting. However, in the days leading up to Friday, the LA City Council was split on appointing Hutt. She is the first woman to represent the district and the first woman to represent South Los Angeles in a decade. She also becomes the fourth woman on the 15-member council, and just the third Black councilwoman in the city's history. CBS 2

LA City Officials Struggle To Enforce RV Ordinance
The city of Los Angeles passed its RV ordinance in April but one councilmember is now saying what she worried would happen, actually is. She said there's no way to enforce the code because there's no place to tow the RVs. On a hot day like Tuesday, being cooped up in an RV on LA streets becomes more unbearable without a generator to help keep the air running. "I just lost my house," said a man living in his RV. This man did not want to show his face but offered to share his story just as he returned to his RV Tuesday on Forest Lawn Drive after a gas run. He says his $3,500 a month rent in Burbank became too much to handle and opted instead to move here four months ago. He explained that his monthly expense now versus when he was paying rent is almost nothing, in comparison. This man joins thousands more on LA's streets even after the May 15 RV ordinance went into effect. It was supposed to keep RVs on the move and not permanent fixtures in neighborhoods. NBC 4
