Police Searching For Suspect Who Sexually Assaulted Woman In Hollywood Hills
Police are actively searching for a man wanted in connection with an attempted sexual assault in Hollywood Hills. The incident occurred on Sept. 17 at around 6 a.m., when a man attacked a female victim who was walking in the area of Bronson Avenue and Hollyridge Drive. According to Los Angeles Police Department, he attempted to remove the victim's clothing before she was able to fight him off and flee from the area. The suspect, "who appeared to be masquerading as a jogger prior to the assault," is described as a White male with curly blonde hair and blue eyes, standing around 6-feet tall and weighing around 170 pounds. LAUSD K-12 Schools To Be Equipped With Narcan Following Student Drug Overdoses
A week after a 15 year old girl overdosed and died at Bernstein High School, LAUSD announced that every K-12 school will now be equipped with Narcan in a matter of weeks. Naloxone, known as Narcan, is “a crucial response for individuals experiencing overdose from substances like fentanyl, and temporarily reverses the effects of an overdose in emergency scenarios,” a news release from LAUSD explains. “We have an urgent crisis on our hands,” Superintendent Carvalho said. “Research shows that the availability of naloxone along with overdose education is effective at decreasing overdoses and death–and will save lives. We will do everything in our power to ensure that not another student in our community is a victim to the growing opioid epidemic. Keeping students safe and healthy remains our highest priority.” LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho and several medical leaders at Bernstein High School have been meeting over the last week. After several overdoses that happened at this high school and neighboring schools in Hollywood, trying to figure out how to educate kids and prevent incidents like the one that happened last week. Echo Park Man To Plead Guilty For Attempted Child Sex Trafficking And Child Pornography
An Echo Park man has agreed to plead guilty to charges of attempted child sex trafficking and child pornography on Wednesday. Francisco Anthony Dorame, 41, will be charged with one count of attempted sex trafficking of a child under 14 years old and one count of distribution of child pornography, according to a California federal district court. Dorame is accused of using the online messing app, Kik, in an attempt to sexually traffic two children — a 7-year-old and a 9-year-old in May 2022. Authorities say Dorame made two payments totaling $100 to someone who had access to the children. He requested photographs of the children and arranged a physical meetup, saying he was eager to “play with them right away.” In April 2022, court documents say Dorame also used the Kik app to distribute sexually explicit images of children between the ages of 4 and 6 years old. Upon pleading guilty, Dorame faces a mandatory sentence of 15 years in federal prison with a potential statutory maximum of life imprisonment. KTLA 5

Woman Re-Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison For Setting Man On Fire
A woman was re-sentenced Thursday to five years in state prison for a September 2019 attack in which a man was lit on fire in South Los Angeles. Shalonda Christine Shaw's case was sent back for re-sentencing in May by a state appellate court panel as a result of a recent change in state law. Shaw, now 36, was convicted in September 2020 of felony mayhem. Jurors also found that she personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon — gasoline — during the Sept. 5, 2019, attack on the 36-year-old man. The panel acquitted her of one count each of attempted murder, assault with caustic chemicals and arson causing great bodily injury. The victim was sitting outside his tent in an encampment along the railroad tracks near the intersection of Slauson Boulevard and Western Avenue, according to the appellate court panel's May 19 ruling. The victim sustained burns over about 30% of his body, including his hands, feet and legs, authorities said soon after the attack. MyNewsLA

Sherman Oaks Homeless Crisis: LAPD Arrests Man Caught On Video Throwing Bag Of Poop
Business owners in Sherman Oaks are getting help from police after a viral video showed a homeless man throwing feces at an SUV and defecating on the street. Two days after FOX 11 News shed light on the homeless crisis affecting Sherman Oaks business owners, LAPD officers arrested the homeless man who was caught on video throwing a bag of his own feces onto business owner Paul Scrivano's SUV. "Thankfully, you guys came along and picked up the story and then it got national attention, and all at once, cops are calling me saying we want to go arrest him," said Scrivano, owner of Blue Dog Beer Tavern. The homeless man was identified as Kamran Niroo. He faces a charge of throwing an object at a moving vehicle. While Scrivano sees this arrest as a step in the direction, he admits having mixed feelings. "I feel horribly for this guy, but the officers told me, not only were they going to book him and charge him, but they were going to seek the housing and health that he needs," Scrivano said.  FOX 11

Man, 64, Reported Missing In Pacoima
Police Thursday sought the public's help to find a 64-year-old man last seen in Pacoima. Guillermo Robledo was last seen on Sept. 13 in the area of Del Sur Street and Oneida Avenue, near Paxton Park, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Robledo is Hispanic, 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds, with graying hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing brown shorts and a yellow-an- blue Club America soccer jersey. Anyone with information on Robledo's whereabouts was asked to contact the LAPD Missing Persons Unit at 213-996-1800. Man Pleads Not Guilty In Arson Fire At Historic South LA Church
A 23-year-old man pleaded not guilty Wednesday in connection with an arson fire that destroyed a historic church in South Los Angeles and left three firefighters injured. Carlos Francisco Diaz is charged with two counts of arson of a structure and one count of arson of a property, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. The charges stem from the Sept. 11 fire that destroyed Victory Baptist Church, along with a fire set Sept. 4 on the same property. Diaz -- who was arrested Sunday -- was ordered to remain jailed in lieu of $150,000 bail. The blaze was reported at 2:22 a.m. Sept. 11 at the two-story church at 4802 S. McKinley Ave., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. "LAFD arson investigators and the multi-agency House of Worship Arson Task Force initiated an investigation into the fire's cause," according to a department statement. "Initial information did not immediately reveal any evidence of an intentionally set fire; however, their persistence later uncovered security footage to help connect the dots." NBC 4

Beverly Hills Smash-and-Grab Robbery: 3 Suspects Arrested In $5 Million Jewelry Heist
Three suspects were arrested this week in connection with a brazen smash-and-grab robbery where $5 million worth of jewelry was stolen from a high-end Beverly Hills store earlier this year, police said. Up to six robbers wielding sledgehammers smashed display cases and stole precious gems, designer watches and necklaces from Luxury Jewels of Beverly Hills during the middle of the day on March 22. Police and FBI investigators used surveillance footage to track down three of the suspects, who were arrested Wednesday after officers served search warrants at separate locations. A 20-year-old man and an an unidentified juvenile were taken into custody in Long Beach, the Beverly Hills Police Department said in a news release. A third suspect, a man from Gardena, was arrested by California Highway Patrol officers during a traffic stop in Barstow, officials said. All three could face multiple charges including commercial burglary and conspiracy, the news release said. A fourth robbery suspect, a 37-year-old man from Los Angeles, was already in custody for an unrelated offense, police said. ABC 7

Man Sentenced To Life Plus 40 Years In Missouri Cop's Death
A Missouri man was sentenced Wednesday to life plus another 40 years in prison in the 2019 shooting death of a suburban St. Louis police officer. Bonette Meeks, 29, was convicted in June of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting arrest in the killing of North County Police Cooperative Officer Michael Langsdorf. Prosecutors said Meeks was trying to cash a stolen check at a market in the St. Louis County community of Wellston on June 23, 2019, when Langsdorf arrived to investigate and that he shot the officer as they struggled. Defense attorneys sought a minimum sentence of 10 years, while prosecutors asked for two life sentences plus 17 years. Langsdorf was a 17-year law enforcement veteran and father of two teenagers. His parents, fiancé and daughter all testified at the sentencing hearing. A psychologist testified for the defense about how being incarcerated as a youth had affected Meeks. The five-time prior felon was incarcerated in North Carolina from the age of 16 until he was 24. Associated Press

Man, 22, Gets 30 Years For Stabbing, Shooting NYPD Cops During 2020 Protests
A man inspired by ISIS who attacked and shot NYPD officers in Brooklyn during the 2020 George Floyd protests was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday, it has been announced. Dzenan Camovic, 22, is accused of stabbing a police officer in the neck, then stealing his gun to shoot two other cops, US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York says. Camovic pleaded guilty in March to charges related to the attack, CNN reported. Camovic, a Bosnian national, was living in Brooklyn illegally, and was inspired by ISIS, prosecutors said. He will be deported after completing his sentence. "Today's 30-year sentence, along with Camovic's removal from the United States, guarantees the community will be protected from his hate-filled ideology and actions," Breon Peace, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said in a statement. On June 3, 2020, prosecutors said Camovic approached two uniformed NYPD officers and stabbed one of them in the neck with a knife. The suspect then chased the second officer, "repeatedly and violently stabbing at the officer with the knife and eventually throwing the knife at the officer," according to an indictment. For Years, Philly Police Dumped Crime Data At Disney World
Shineka Crawford will never forget the day her 18-year-old son Shaquille Barbour was killed. She was at a family gathering in North Philadelphia last summer, when she learned a gunman shot Shaquille more than a dozen times. Crawford found him bleeding in the street. “I can't get that picture out of my head,” Crawford told NBC10 Investigators in an interview. "The pain never goes away, and never gets better." But according to Philadelphia Police Department records, Barbour was not shot on the 1700 block of 68th Avenue in West Oak Lane in front of family. The data showed he was killed in Disney World. For more than a decade, if Philadelphia police officers made a typo or were unable to record a precise location for a crime committed in the city, the department would mark the incident with GPS coordinates inside Disney World in Florida. Specifically, the area behind Cinderella's Castle known as "Fantasyland" became the default location for inaccurate crime data. “It's hurtful. He got murdered on the street in Philadelphia,” Crawford said through tears when she learned of this practice. NBC Philadelphia

Drug Bust: Detectives Seize 60 Pounds Of Meth, Thousands Of Pills Coming Into US From Mexico
Officials seized large quantities of narcotics during a large bust in Oxnard. Detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office say during a three-month investigation, they discovered that Jose Delgado, 39, was working with a large drug trafficking organization responsible for distributing large quantities of methamphetamine, heroin and counterfeit prescription medications containing fentanyl to residents of Ventura County. Officials say Delgado coordinated drug shipments and deliveries from Tijuana, Mexico. Once in the US, the drugs were then transported and stored in safe houses throughout Los Angeles. According to the sheriff's office, Delgado used drug couriers to transport the items to Ventura County. Once in the county, Delgado's co-conspirator, Jose Chavez, would distribute the drugs to street level drug dealers and users. On four separate occasions, detectives seized large amounts of counterfeit M30 pills that were laced with fentanyl, along with methamphetamine, cocaine, and weapons.  FOX 11

Man In Critical Condition Remains Unidentified At Harbor-UCLA Hospital
After more than a week in the ICU, a critically ill man in declining health remains unidentified at Harbor-UCLA medical center in Torrance. The man, who is unable to communicate with hospital staff, was found unconscious by paramedics at the 1800 block of Del Amo Boulevard on Sept. 13, according to Harbor-UCLA social worker Cynthia Rosa. Described as a 5'8", 208-pound White man in his late 50s, he did not have any identification on him or other documentation, Rosa said. When paramedics found the man, he did not appear to have any external injuries but was “very ill” and immediately intubated at the hospital, Rosa said. The man is alert but unresponsive to hospital staff, who hope to find the man's family given his poor health, Rosa added. LAPD is aware of the situation and investigating the man's identity. Los Angeles County Easing Mask-Wearing Rules As COVID-19 Spread Slows
COVID-19 masking rules will be eased in Los Angeles County starting Friday, with health officials announcing they will lift the requirement for face coverings in correctional facilities and homeless shelters, while indoor mask-wearing in general will become a matter of individual preference. The county Department of Public Health announced it will align with new state guidance announced Tuesday easing the mask-wearing rules that have been in place for most of the year in response to surging COVID cases. The new state rules will take effect Friday, lifting the mask-wearing requirement at correctional facilities, homeless and emergency shelters and in cooling centers. The eased rules will affect counties where COVID activity is rated as "low" -- which covers most of the state, including Los Angeles County. Masks will continue to be required at health-care and long-term care facilities. ABC 7
