21-Year-Old Man Fatally Shot In North Hollywood
Authorities were asking for the public's help in locating the person or persons involved in the fatal shooting of 21-year-old man from Mission Hills. The incident, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, happened in the early morning hours of Sunday, near the intersection of Burbank Boulevard and Whitsett Avenue in North Hollywood. At the scene, the man who called 911 told police that the victim had been struck by gunfire while at a convenience store. Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department transported the 21-year-old to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. His identity was being withheld pending next of kin notification. Detectives are still trying to determine exactly where the shooting occurred and are canvassing the area for video surveillance. There is currently no suspect description.   KTLA 5

Wrong-Way Driver Arrested For DUI In Downtown L.A. After Hitting Two Men, Killing One
A 39-year-old was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence after he struck two pedestrians with his car, killing one, in downtown Los Angeles, authorities said. John Joseph Hansen Madarang, a Los Angeles resident, was apprehended after driving his silver Lexus IS200t into two men at the corner of 9th and Olive streets about 11:40 p.m. Friday, causing them to be “catapulted into the air,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in a news release. Madarang had been driving the wrong way on 9th, a one-way street where traffic moves eastbound, when the crash occurred, police said. One of the pedestrians, a 36-year-old man, died from his injuries; the other, a 32-year-old man, suffered severe injuries. Both were crossing the street in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision, police said. 1 Killed, 6 injured In Northridge Crash
At least seven people were hurt in a three-vehicle crash in Northridge Saturday night, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. One of those hurt was killed in the crash. The crash was reported around 7:45 p.m. in the 8300 block of North Corbin Avenue, near the intersection with Roscoe Boulevard. Images from SkyFOX shows the three cars — seemingly a white, four-door sedan, a red, four-door sedan and a silver four-door sedan. The silver vehicle was upside down, and the white car had its hood taken off. It's unclear what led to the crash. The preliminary investigation indicated that the crash was the result of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, LAPD Officer Mike Lopez said. Man Shot And Robbed Of Rolex, Jewelry Near Koreatown
A man was shot and robbed of his Rolex watch and jewelry outside a luxury apartment complex near Koreatown Friday afternoon, Los Angeles police say. The man was driving a Rolls-Royce Phantom. The victim has only been described by police as a man between 25 and 30 years old. Eyewitness video of the aftermath shows police and paramedics helping the victim, who appears to be wounded but walking with some assistance. LAPD says two male suspects ran away from the scene when the robbery and shooting happened just before 4:20 p.m. in the 2800 block of Sunset Place. In addition to the Rolex, the suspects took three chains. Footage showed police outside the Kurve apartment building and focusing their investigation on the Rolls-Royce. LAPD said the man was conscious and breathing after the shooting, but they later said he was transported to a hospital in critical condition. ABC 7

Police Search For Hit-and-Run Motorist Who Left Victim In ICU
Investigators Saturday asked the public for help locating the driver of a vehicle that struck a 42-year-old man and left him critically injured on a Lincoln Heights street. The crash occurred Oct. 28 around 6:30 a.m. at North Mission Road and Superior Court, according to a Los Angeles Police Department press release. A witness saw 42-year-old Roscoe Farrish lying in the street about an hour later and called an ambulance, police said. Farrish has been hospitalized in an intensive care unit since. Drivers involved in a collision should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do it, notify emergency services and remain at the scene to identify themselves and provide information, police said. Arrest Made In Attack On Couple In Dodger Stadium Parking Lot After Elton John Concert
An arrest has been made in connection with the beating of a couple in a Dodger Stadium parking lot after an Elton John concert. No other information was released surrounding the arrest following the attack, which was caught on video around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. According to police, the attack followed a fender bender following John's three sold out shows at the venue and the victims (described as a man and a woman who are married) had attended the concert. Following the crash, the male victim exited his car and an argument ensued, resulting in the man being attacked by multiple individuals. Police said the man's wife was pulled by her hair while attempting to check on her husband and was knocked to the floor. When she came to, she worked to revive her husband, and managed to get him in their car, driving him to the hospital. He has since been released. The wife did not require hospitalization. CBS 2

LASD: Cadet Injured By SUV In `Grave Condition'
One of the five Los Angeles County law enforcement cadets critically injured by an SUV while on a training run in South Whittier last Wednesday has suffered setbacks and is in “grave condition,” sheriff's officials said Sunday. The cadet was identified as Alejandro Martinez by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Information Bureau, which asked the public to “keep him and his family in your prayers.” Four cadets also remain hospitalized in critical condition while the rest of the more than two dozen cadets injured Wednesday have been released from the hospital, the department said. They were injured when a Honda CRV swerved into a group of about 75 law enforcement cadets who were on a training run around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 10600 block of Mills Avenue, near Telegraph Road, just blocks from the sheriff's STARS Explorer Academy law enforcement training center. Tarzana Couple Who Fled U.S. Are Returned To Start Sentences For $20 Million COVID Fraud
The San Fernando Valley couple who fled to Montenegro over a year ago after being convicted of a multi-million dollar COVID-19 loan scheme were returned to Los Angeles Thursday, Nov. 17 by authorities. A federal jury convicted Richard Ayvazyan and his wife Marietta Terabelian of fraudulently obtaining more than $20 million in COVID-19 relief funds in June 2021, according to court documents. The couple were part of a Los Angeles-based fraud ring where dozens of fake or stolen identities were used to submit false applications for COVID-19 relief loan programs, such as the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), prosecutors said. The money was then spent on luxury homes, jewelry, watches, furniture and handbags. After their conviction, the couple cut their tracking bracelets and left their Tarzana residence, prompting the FBI to put out a reward for information leading to their arrest. SoCal K-9 Finds Thousands Of Fentanyl Pills Stashed In Fire Extinguisher During Traffic Stop
A K-9 officer with the Alhambra Police Department helped track down 50,000 fentanyl pills that were found in a fire extinguisher during a traffic stop on Thursday. According to a tweet posted by the police department, an officer conducted a traffic stop and found the extinguisher in the driver's vehicle. K-9 Otis was alerted to it and the pills were found inside. The driver has since been arrested for possession of narcotics for sales. The investigation remains ongoing. ABC 7

Man Found Guilty Of Murder In Virginia Rookie Police Officer's Death
A Newport News Circuit Court jury on Thursday found a 41-year-old man guilty of second-degree murder in the 2020 death of a rookie police officer. After two hours of deliberations, the 12-member jury determined that Vernon E. Green II murdered Newport News Police Officer Katherine M. “Katie” Thyne on Jan. 23, 2020, when he drove off as officers were attempting to pull him out of his parked car during a marijuana investigation. The 24-year-old Thyne — a former U.S. Navy sailor who began as a police recruit about 14 months before her death — was trapped between the driver's door and frame of Green's fleeing sedan. She died after the car struck a tree about a block away. Thyne was the first Newport News police officer killed in the line of duty in 25 years, and the city's first female officer slain on the job. Green, of Newport News, faces up to 41 years in prison when he's sentenced Feb. 17 by Circuit Court Judge Christopher Papile. That includes 40 years on the second-degree murder count and another year on the felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident. Daily Press

5 Dead, 18 Injured In Colorado Nightclub Shooting
A 22-year-old gunman opened fire in a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, killing five people and injuring 18 before he was subdued by “heroic” patrons and arrested by police who were on the scene within minutes, authorities said Sunday. Two firearms, including a “long rifle,” were found at Club Q after the Saturday night shooting, said Police Chief Adrian Vasquez. Investigators were still determining a motive, and the attack was being investigated to see if it rises to the level of a hate crime, said El Paso County District Attorney Michael Allen. Police identified the gunman as Anderson Lee Aldrich, who was in custody and being treated for injuries. A man with the same name and age was arrested in 2021 after his mother reported he threatened her with “a homemade bomb, multiple weapons and ammunition,” according to authorities. Long Beach Ave. reported a fire through the roof of the one-story structure with its flames threatening an adjacent pallet yard, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The fire was knocked down just before 4 a.m. A firefighter suffered a non-life-threatening burn injury battling the blaze and was taken to a hospital in fair condition, Humphrey said. The one-story building was the site of a previous burn. The time and cause of the man's death will be determined by the coroner. The victim's name will be withheld pending notification of next of kin. The blaze was categorized as a major emergency structure fire at 3:13 a.m., with 106 firefighters at the location and flames extending to some contents at the pallet yard and briefly threatening two nearby commercial structures. A quiet Friday evening in the Hollywood Hills turned into tragedy for 9-year-old Piper, a blue merle-Chihuahua mix, as she strolled, leashed, behind her dog walker only to be snatched and mauled to death by a mountain lion. Video from early Friday evening in a residential area near the Hollywood Reservoir — near Creston and Durand drives — shows a large, collared cougar emerging from the brush, creeping along the road and then crouching as he sees the small walking party. Seconds later, the recording shows the mountain lion pounce from behind and wrest Piper backward. “I felt the tug and I heard Piper squeal,” the man who was walking the dog told KTLA-TV. He did not want his name or face revealed. “It was like a two- or three-second struggle,” he told the news station. Los Angeles Times
