Chief Bratton picks three for top posts

Jim McDonnell, Sharon Papa, George
Gascón

Chief William Bratton has selected Jim McDonnell, Sharon Papa and George Gascón to serve LAPD in top positions, three great picks for community policing in LA. All of them will bring to his team a deep appreciation and understanding of community-based policing.

All three currently hold the rank of LAPD Commander. Jim McDonnell will be promoted to Assistant Chief, and both Sharon Papa and George
Gascón will serve as Deputy Chiefs.

Their exact jobs within the Department have not been revealed ...

Jim McDonnell has been serving as a Commander with the Los Angeles Police Department, assigned as the Special Assistant to the Chief of Police. He was recently asked to take on the responsibility of managing the "Transition Team" for Chief Bratton, and, along with the Chief, is leading the Department’s efforts to revitalize Community Policing in Los Angeles.

Commander Sharon Papa joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1997 when the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) Police Department merged with the Los Angeles Police Department. She served with the MTA Police for almost 17 years, from 1990 to 1997 as its Chief of Police.

Commander Gascón has been the Commanding Officer of Training Group, since April 2000. He oversees the training needs of the Department’s approximately 12,000 sworn and civilian employees. He has a staff of hundreds of sworn and civilian employees, adjunct instructors and recruit officers.
