POLICE COMMISSION NEWS BRIEFING

At
the regularly scheduled meeting on February 26, 2002, Mayor James
Hahn, and two Police Commissioners, David Cunningham III and Silvia
Saucedo, made a presentation on proposed changes to the Senior Lead
Officer (SLO) program.
The changes included:

Full reinstatement of the SLO program |
|
Flexible work schedule, a 5/40 or 4/10, for SLOs |
|
Enhanced SLO communication with patrol officers in the Basic
Car Unit |
|
Increased training including a phase in training period between
outgoing and incoming SLOs following a promotion or transfer |
|
Adequate office space, equipment and communication services |
|
Assigning a Commanding Officer to oversee community-policing
Department-wide Area Summits with elected officials' community
organizations, associations, and City agencies participating |
|
Formation of Police and Community Collaborative Teams (PACCT)
|
The Department was directed to incorporate the policy recommendations
into a plan and report back to the Police Commission within 30 days
for approval.
