PADILLA DIRECTS LAPD TO PROVIDE CRIME DATA TO NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILS
LOS ANGELES - City Council President Alex Padilla today introduced
a motion to have the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) make regular
presentations on crime data to Neighborhood Councils throughout
the City.
"Neighborhood Councils and residents of Los Angeles deserve to know
the strategies being used to fight crime," said Padilla. "The LAPD
will have an opportunity to share information with community members
to help keep them informed about law enforcement efforts both locally
and Citywide."
The LAPD has a departmental accountability program called FASTRAC
(Focused Accountability, Strategy, Teamwork, Response, and Coordination)
that uses the latest computer technology to provide up-to-the minute
crime statistics within a basic area, bureau, or region. Padilla's
proposal would have LAPD officers coordinate the presentation of
FASTRAC data with Neighborhood Councils.
This year, the City of Los Angeles has certified 39 Neighborhood
Councils, with an additional 71 awaiting final certification. The
role of Neighborhood Councils is to encourage and facilitate neighborhood
involvement in addressing local and citywide issues and to increase
resident participation in the City's decision-making process.
The 7th Council District serves the communities of Lake View Terrace,
Mission Hills, North Hills, Pacoima, Panorama City, and Sylmar.

EDITOR'S
NOTE: Just to clarify ... while the motion to direct the LAPD to
provide FASTRAC crime data to all the Neighborhood Councils has
been made, it will now have to go before Janice Hahn's Committee
on Education and Neighborhoods for discussion, and then on to the
full City Council for a final vote.
So, it's not yet approved.
At this point, Alex Padilla et al are looking for political support
to get it passed.
If you have questions, we suggest calling Janice Hahn's office at
