EARLY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM MOTION

A motion was made by Councilmembers Janice Hahn and Wendy Greuel that proposes six ways to improve the way the City notifies the public about its activities. The motion was referred to the Rules and Elections Committee, and you can expect that it will be heard by that committee on Wednesday, February 5 at 9 a.m. in Room 1060 of City Hall. You can check with the committee clerk at 213 / 978-1071, or subscribe to that committee’s agendas through the ENS system on city’s Web site at www.lacity.org.

SUBCRIBING THROUGH THE ENS SYSTEM

Speaking of subscribing to committee agendas, I’m you don’t need to be reminded that through this system you can have the agendas of the City Council, its committees, and the commissions send directly to your e-mail box.

But what many people have forgotten is that you can also subscribe to the City Council Referral Sheets, or New Council Items, through this system. This is early notification in its purest form. Within days after a motion or a communication (such as from the Mayor) is referred to a City Council committee, the City Clerk makes a list of it, and it’s yours for the asking through the ENS system. If you find something that is of interest to you, someone on your committees can begin tracking it. You don’t want to be surprised when weeks or months later it shows up on an agenda.

BURGLAR ALARM ISSUE

For those of you following this issue, the City Council was deadlocked on this issue today. Remember that the Council District 8 seat is vacant. The City Council will again discuss the matter at its meeting next Tuesday, February 4 at City Hall.
