Re: Yet Another Invitation to the Congress of Neighborhoods and
Some Changes
Since the backbone of our notification system is e-mail, it is possible
that friends and Neighborhood Council board members without e-mail
may need to know about the upcoming Congress of Neighborhoods. Hopefully,
you will be able to spread the word.
The public is invited to attend the Congress of Neighborhoods on
Saturday, November 1st at the Los Angeles Convention Center, where
Neighborhood Councils will meet with city departments and their
general managers, be trained in critical skills, and have an opportunity
to network with each other.
Although the names of some of the classes may appear to be the same,
an effort was made to provide new instruction and new instructors.
Registration will be available through our Web site at www.lacityneighborhoods.com,
or you call the department toll-free at (866) LA HELPS.
You do NOT need to register to attend. Registration helps us ensure
that we locate the classes in the properly-sized rooms. On our home
page, look for the Congress icon at the left to find the program
of events and classes, and the registration information.
In order to give us time to prepare the event, registration will
close on the evening of Sunday, October 26. After that, you can
come and network with people, visit the 40 or so city departments,
and take your chances on the classes.
When you look at the program, please note that:
* During the general networking/breakfast period from 8:30 to 9:30
a.m. there will be rooms set aside for special interest groups to
network.
* The entire event has been condensed from an all-day event to a
morning event, so there will be no lunch break.
You should be finished by 1 p.m. If you’ve already reviewed the
program, you should be aware of some small corrections:
* The time for the “Ask DONE” workshop appears differently in two
places. The correct time is 11:55 a.m. to 1 p.m.
* The second hour (11:55 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) features a repeat of
the Consensus Building workshop.
* Another hospitality suite has been added by the Port of Los Angeles
starting at 1 p.m.
* During the morning networking period from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., a
special room has been set aside for those people who share an interest
in finding better ways for Neighborhood Councils to become involved
in citywide issues.
