Mayor’s Budget Briefing

Mayor Jim Hahn is inviting all interested neighborhood council leaders to attend a special briefing by the Executive Director of his Office of Management and Budget, Julia Kirwan.

The state’s fiscal crisis is real, and it dramatically affects the City of Los Angeles. Ms. Kirwan will explain the extent of the crisis to you, explain the unprecedented system of the priority based budgeting that the Mayor is using to address the problem, and answer your questions. The Mayor has asked for and has received recommendations from the Neighborhood Councils regarding which priorities he should place the highest as he develops his budget proposal.

If you are among the many who believe that being involved in the city’s budget process is one of the most things that a Neighborhood Council can do, then you will want to attend this briefing. I'm willing to bet that there isn't another city in the nation that wants to involve the public this deeply into the mayor's budgetary process.

The event will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2004 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Public Works Hearing Room on the 3rd floor of City Hall.

If you plan to attend and you’d like to have free parking arranged, please call the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment toll-free at (866) LA HELPS, or send us an e-mail at done@mailbox.lacity.org. We’ll need to know your name, make of car, and license plate number. Parking will be available in Lot 4. Travel north on Los Angeles Street from First Street. As soon as you pass the entrance to Parker Center on the right, turn right into the first driveway – the one with the kiosk. You’ll end up parking under the City Hall Mall on the P-2 level. Walk to the elevators in the center of the parking area (the direction you were driving as you were looking for a parking spot), take the elevator to the third floor and cross the “bridge” to main City Hall. When you reach the Rotunda (it’s as far as you can go), turn right down the big hallway, and you’ll see the hearing room on the left.
