Re: Empowerment Academy - 2nd Quarter Classes Available. Congress Reminder. Office Space Ordinance Approved by Committee.

EMPOWERMENT ACADEMY – 2ND QUARTER CLASSES AVAILABLE

Over 300 Neighborhood Council leaders received valuable training at the Empowerment Academy classes that we offered during the 1st Quarter. You can view the 2nd Quarter’s classes at our Web site, and register online.

Presently, the bottom of the home page contains the colorful flyer that lists the new class selections. By this evening, it should be replaced with the more detail course catalogue.

To register from the home page, click on Training>Empowerment Academy.

CONGRESS OF NEIGHBORHOODS

As you know, the next Congress of Neighborhoods is Saturday, May 22. If you have any additional suggestions for Neighborhood Council “best practices” or caucus discussions, please let me know ASAP. As opposed to classroom instruction, which is now being accomplished through the Empowerment Academy, the Congress will feature opportunities for Neighborhood Council leaders to meet with other to discuss or resolve problem, share best practices, learn from each other, etc.

OFFICE SPACE ORDINANCE APPROVED BY COMMITTEE

Today the Education and Neighborhoods Committee unanimously approved the city ordinance that would make it worlds easier for Neighborhood Councils to lease or occupy office space. When approved by the full City Council, it would cut through enough bureaucracy to cut the time needed to approve such arrangements from 6 months to a year, down to 30 to 45 days. And it would only take that long mainly because the City Council would have to approve any leases.
