Neighborhood
Mapping Project
As you may know, there have been many efforts over the years to
identify and celebrate the different neighborhoods in our city.
This process has been hampered by the lack of a formal or uniform
way to identify neighborhoods.
We know that within Neighborhood Council boundaries, there are many
separate and distinct neighborhoods. We believe that one of best
places to go is to those who best know their communities. We're
combining our new effort with the efforts of Councilman LaBonge's
office.
The process we want to use for this part of the effort is quite
simple, and hopefully will not take up too much of your time. Using
a map of your Neighborhood Council, please draw lines to designate
areas that you believe are distinct neighborhoods, regardless of
size. Please include each neighborhood's name. If you need to have
a map sent to you, please let us know.
Once you have demarcated the various neighborhoods within your Neighborhood
Council area, please fax the map to Matt Modrzejewski in the Office
of the Mayor at (213) 978-0775, or mail it to him at 200 North Spring
St., Room 370, Los Angeles, CA 90012. He and his staff will collect
the information, and we will have taken a huge step toward identifying
the city's neighborhoods. If you have questions, or if you need
a map, please contact me (through the email below).
