Re: King/Drew Medical Center Workshop Will Include Other Trauma Centers. Poll Workers Needed by County and City. On-Location Filming Hearing to be Held.

KING/DREW MEDICAL CENTER WORKSHOP AT CONGRESS

In an earlier newsletter, we told you that a new session has been added that was triggered by the controversy at the King/Drew Medical Center. The newsletter mentioned that attempts would be made to explain how this effects the entire trauma care system in the County. For those of you who wrote to us after hearing about the closure of the trauma center in Northridge, yes, this is the the session you will want to attend in the afternoon. Noon to 1:40 p.m.

POLL WORKERS NEEDED

The County Registrar of Voters has a shortage of between 1000 and 1300 poll workers for the November 2, 2004.

The most critical areas are the westside, South Los Angeles, and the Valley.

To be a poll worker you must be a U.S. citizen (non-citizens can serve as interpreters), registered voter, and a resident of California.

The County pays a stipend of $55 in additional to $25 for attending a training class that can be held at a location near you if you can gather up several people from your Neighborhood Council or near-by Neighborhood Councils.

The County Board of Supervisors will host a recognition ceremony for participating Neighborhood Councils, and participating Neighborhood Council members will receive a community service award from the County Registrar of Voters.

The County thinks it would be advertising and team building if you members were to wear something such as caps or shirts that identified your Neighborhood Council.

If this all sounds too good to be true, please call County Registrar of Voters at (562) 462-2107. Or send an e-mail to corporate@rrcc.co.la.ca.us.

But wait! There’s more. The fun never stops.

On March 8 and May 17 we’ll have the City of Los Angeles election, and they need poll workers too.

Each time the City conducts an election, they need 8,000 poll workers.

The workers receive a stipend/training bonus ranging from $75 to $125 per election, depending on the duties.

The City Clerk's toll-free phone number is (866) 899-8683. Or you can contact Frank Martinez directly at fmartinez@clerk@lacity.org.

CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE HEARING ON FILM PERMIT NOTIFICATION AND ENFORCEMENT.

The City Council's Conventions, Tourism, Entertainment Industry and Business Enterprise Committee would like to hear your comments on how on-location filming effects your lives and your neighborhood. Specifically, how can advance notification be more effective, and how can better compliance with filming permit conditions be encouraged?

Your comments are important as the City reviews its policies regarding on-location filming.

Monday, October 25, 2004, 2 p.m., City Council Chamber, Room 340, City Hall,

200 North Spring Street. To ensure that you are made aware of last minute changes, you can subscribe to have sent to you this agenda, and any other committee or commission agenda through the City’s Early Notification System by clicking here, http://www.lacity.org/lacity161.htm, or going to the City’s home page at www.lacity.org.
