Re: CITY
ATTORNEYS ADVICE ON HOLDING OR SPONSORING POLITICAL CANDIDATES
DEBATES.
As promised
earlier, the Office of the City Attorney has released guidelines
for Neighborhood Councils that are planning to host or sponsor candidate
debates or forums, especially those involving the mayoral candidates.
Because you
are part of the City family, there are mandatory guidelines that
must be complied with to ensure that City political forums are fair
and impartial.
Later tonight
our home page will include the two-page guideline document, and
a 16-page attachment of candidate contact information that must
be available in all languages to those attending a meeting where
a candidate is participating.
Because several
of the languages involve special characters, it is possible that
those pages of the attachment may not transmit correctly through
electronic means. If your Neighborhood Council is not able to receive
a complete set of the translated information correctly, please contact
your Advocate or our main office for a hard copy, and we will send
one to you.
Should you have
questions about these guidelines, please contact your Advocate who
will refer your inquiry to the City Attorney.
After this information
has been on our home page for a while, it will be moved to the Reference
Library / Legal Advice section of the website.
