Re: CITY POLL WORKERS STILL NEEDED. SECOND CONGRESS PLANNING MEETING SCHEDULED. LOOKING UP CITY COUNCIL VOTES.

CITY POLL WORKERS STILL NEEDED

The Office of the City Clerk still needs more poll workers for both the March 8 and the May 17 elections. Meet people, make new friends, and make so easy for people to vote that they will want to do it twice!

The City Clerk will pay a stipend of $55/75, and you will be paid $25 to attend the 2-hour training class. You must be a registered voter. There is a special need for those English-speaking people, who also speak Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Korean, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.

Contact the City Clerk at election@clerk.lacity.org, or call (213) 978-0444.

SECOND CONGRESS PLANNING MEETING SCHEDULED

On February 10, interested Neighborhood Council leaders met for the first time to discuss the last Congress of Neighborhoods, and to begin planning the next one on June 25.

If you’d like to join in, the next meeting will be on Thursday, February 24, at our Empowerment Academy Training Center: 305 East First Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012, in Little Tokyo, at 7:00 p.m. Free street parking is available after 6:00 p.m., as well as in Lot 7 located around the corner on Judge John Aiso Street (the parking attendant leaves at 4:00 p.m.). There is no access to our office from Lot 7, so you will need to walk around to First Street.

Please call Olivia Roby at (213) 473-4656, toll-free at (866) LA HELPS, or by e-mail at oroby@mailbox.lacity.org to let us know if you will be joining us, and for addition information.

HELPFUL HINT: LOOKING UP CITY COUNCIL VOTES

This one is so cool that you’ll be calling all your friends and telling them about it.

Still again on the cutting edge of transparency, the City’s website allows you (and your friends) to find out which city council members voted for which way on each matter. From the City’s home page at www.lacity.org, click on Council Votes on the right, and you’ll be taken to a screen that is so simple that even I can use it without taking a class.
