Re: Budget Day & Meet the Mayor

On behalf of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, I would like to invite you to attend the Community Budget Day on Saturday, October 1 at City Hall from 9 a.m. to noon. 

Los Angeles is leading the way in involving the public in the development of the city's budget.  On Saturday, you will learn about the special place that has been carved out in this process for the Neighborhood Councils.  The day will start with the Mayor making his first public address about the upcoming budget.  Council President Alex Padilla, other councilmembers, and department heads will also be present.  Deputy Mayor Karen Sisson will then lay out the details of the upcoming budget proposal.  I will add an overview of the input process and there will be breakout rooms for smaller group discussions.

Following this event, from noon to 1:30 p.m., the Mayor will begin meeting with some Neighborhood Council leaders.  There is not close to enough time on this day for him to meet with representatives from each Neighborhood Council.  This is just a beginning.

In addition to the Neighborhood Council presidents and officers who will be meeting with the Mayor on key Neighborhood Council issues, the names of four other people will be selected, literally out of a hat, to meet the Mayor on Saturday afternoon.  Because of serious time constraints, each group of two people who will meet with the Mayor on this day will be limited to five minutes.  If you are interested, you will need to attend Budget Day, put your name in the hat, and be selected.
