Re: COMMISSIONER MICHELE SIQUEIROS CONFIRMED. DAY OF SERVICE A SUCCESS. BUDGET DAY MATERIALS AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE. DONATION QUESTION RE-ANSWERED.

COMMISSIONER MICHELE SIQUEIROS CONFIRMED

Michele, a former Senior Project Coordinator here in the department, was confirmed on Tuesday as the newest commissioner, replacing Pat Herrera Duran.  The correct way to pronounce her last name is "SA-KAY-ROS."

DAY OF SERVICE A SUCCESS

Depending upon who you talked to between 8,000 and 10,000 people participated in last Saturday's Day of Service on six high school campuses.   Both the Daily News and Los Angeles Times wrote stories.  Many Neighborhood Councils participated, and the Mayor mentioned the Neighborhood Councils at each of the six schools.

BUDGET DAY MATERIALS AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE

The handout materials, survey, PowerPoint presentation, and other material that we presented on Budget Day, is now available on our website .

DONATION QUESTION RE-ANSWERED

Neighborhood Councils have been asking whether or not they can accept donations.  We checked our Funding FAQ on the website and found that the answer was not written clearly enough.  The problem was around what is meant by "accept."  The answer (#50 on the list) has been changed.  Here is how it reads now: 50.  Can Neighborhood Councils accept donations?

Neighborhood Councils can ask for and collect donations.  However, they must be formally accepted at some point.  Currently, this can only be done by the City Council.  The same situation applies to our department.  The motions are easy to write.  Please contact your Advocate.  An ordinance is being finalized by the City Attorney that will allow Neighborhood Councils to officially accept donations of funds, supplies, food, etc.  The best way to keep track of the progress of the donations ordinance is to check our home page at www.LACityNeighborhoods.com .
