Re: CONFLICT OF INTEREST TRAINING DATES SET. REMINDER: EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING. CORRECTION.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST DATES SET

As explained in the newsletter of January 23, 2006, all Neighborhood Council board members will be required by state law (AB 1234) to take two hours of conflict of interest training during 2006. The Office of the City Attorney has been providing voluntary conflict of interest training through our Empowerment Academy. They will be teaching these new classes too.

Throughout the year, we will be attempting to provide as many training opportunities as possible around the city so that you can meet this obligation. At this time, the complete two-hour course has not been finalized. Right now, we are providing classes that will be quite a bit like the conflict of interest training that the City Attorney has been teaching. If you attend one of these classes, it will count as one hour toward your requirement. The goal is to have the balance of the training ready to go in the summer. As mentioned in the previous newsletter, we are attempting to create online training. But no promises. The advantage of attending classes is that you have an opportunity to ask questions of the attorneys.

If you plan to attend, we ask that you RSVP to us at (213) 485-1360, toll-fee at 3-1-1, or by e-mail at done@lacity.org by 5:00 pm. on the day before the session. We may have to cancel sessions if there is not adequate attendance based on the RSVPs. If you have sent an RSVP and the class is cancelled we will notify you on the morning of the class. If you do not RSVP and plan to attend, please contact us on the day of the class to see if it's still being held.

Here is the schedule. All classes are scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. We have set aside a two-hour block of time in the event that you have lots of questions.

REMINDER: EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AMBASSADOR TRAINING

Speaking of training opportunities that we have mentioned in past newsletters, the February 3, 2006 newsletter details lots of convincing reasons why each Neighborhood Council would want to send at least one person to the next round of Emergency Preparedness Ambassador training. The three sessions, which are all necessary for "graduation", will be held March 18, March 25, and April 1 in Little Tokyo.

CORRECTION

In the last newsletter, I was trying to explain that the funds received by a Neighborhood Council starting on July 1, 2003 for that fiscal year, must be expended by June 30, 2007. The "2007" got botched in the newsletter.
