Re: NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL REVIEW COMMISSION INPUT WANTED.  CONFLICT OF INTEREST TRAINING FLYERS NOW ON HOME PAGE.

NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL REVIEW COMMISSION INPUT WANTED

Last Tuesday, the Education and Neighborhoods Committee discussed the proposed ordinance that would create the Neighborhood Council review commission. (Because it still doesn't have an official name, some refer to it as the "912 Commission" after the Section of the City Charter that mandates its creation by the middle of this year.

We first started notifying Neighborhood Councils about the opportunity to provide input on this matter in early November. The committee withheld any discussion for 45 days to allow Neighborhood Councils time to study, discuss, and weigh in on the matter. In reality, none have done so. The committee reiterated its desire to hear from the Neighborhood Councils. But now the clock is ticking.

Since November, our department's home page at www.LACityNeighborhoods.com has included three different reports from city staff suggesting various alternatives to help you in your deliberations. The website has now had added to it a timetable for City Council action, and two possible draft ordinances. Those new documents have been added to the old documents on our home page.

The committee has asked our Neighborhood Council Advocates to remind each Neighborhood Council about this opportunity. Expect to be hearing from them soon.

The headline says it all. The flyers are in English and Spanish.
