MAYOR'S CITY BUDGET SNEAK PREVIEW

On April 20, the Mayor will release the proposed city budget for the upcoming year.  Later today, Mayor Villaraigosa will release that portion of the budget that proposes a multi-year expansion plan for the Police Department that will add 1,000 new officers over the next five years.  The Mayor wanted the Neighborhood Councils to know about the plan first.    Although we have never sent these newsletters with atttachments, we must do so at this time in order to get this information to you right away.  The document is 12 pages and it is in .pdf format.

ELECTION TIME CAUTION

With the state's primary election coming up in June, it's time again to remind Neighborhood Councils about the rules and restrictions regarding endorsing candidates and ballot measures, and holding candidates' forums.  There are two advice letters from the Office of the City Attorney on our website regarding these subjects.  The letter regarding endorsing can be found at Reference Library>Legal Advice.  Look for the letter dated 12/15/2000.  The letter regarding candidates' forums is in the same place and is dated 1/10/05.
