Congress Debreifing

Dear Neighborhood Council Friends:
On May 23, 2007, at 6:30 p.m. the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) will hold a debriefing and planning session on the Congress of Neighborhoods at the Department of Water and Power cafeteria, located at 111 North Hope Street , Los Angeles . Parking is available at the Hope Street entrance.
We will listen to feedback about the Congress that was held on April 21, 2007 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, and we especially want to hear your ideas about how the Congresses should be designed going forward. Beginning with this meeting, we will continue to convene a working group on the Congress made up of those who wish to participate along with DONE staff and people we may recruit for their expertise on a particular event-related topic.
Our first goal will be to gather ideas about what kind of event neighborhood councils want the Congress to be. (For example, should it be a convention for meeting others, sharing ideas, learning about city services? A policy forum on a wide range of topics? A policy forum and opportunity to learn about and work on a limited number of focused topics? An education fair in which Neighborhood Councils share best practices on a range of topics? An intensive leadership academy or something else?) We will share these ideas with Neighborhood Councils, then we will work together to create an action plan for a fall event.
We hope you and or other representatives of your neighborhood council will participate. We are looking forward to finding new models for events that will allow neighborhood council board members and stakeholders to come together, share ideas, make plans, learn, and grow in the leadership contributions you make to the community and the city. As they say in my home state, "Y'all come!"
