Re: Letter From Carol Baker Tharp

Dear Neighborhood Council Friends:

I want to share with you personally that I have started a four-month medical leave from the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment while I work to beat this pesky cancer that's returned.  According to Charter section 512, I have appointed BongHwan Kim as Acting General Manager during the time that I am away.

Because I love this job so much, taking the leave was one of the hardest professional choices I've ever made–yet in order to keep doing this work for the long haul, it was a choice I had to make. I take comfort in knowing that the staff at DONE is a talented, energetic, and dedicated team and that BongHwan is a capable and creative leader.  I know the department is in good hands, and both BongHwan and I  have the full support of the Mayor's office in this arrangement. 

During the leave, I have committed to stay as involved as my health permits, and I look forward to being back with the team in the new year.  You and your good work in our communities are much in my heart, and I wish you success as you serve Los Angeles this Fall.
