Dear Fellow Neighborhood Council Leader and Community Member,

On behalf of the Congress of Neighborhoods Planning Group, we are pleased to invite you to attend and participate in our Semi-Annual Congress of Neighborhoods to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, on October 27, 2007 . Registration and breakfast will start at 7:30AM. The program starts at 8:30AM and will conclude at 12:15PM.  This is a FREE EVENT and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC .  Free parking and full breakfast will be provided.  The theme for our Congress is:  “Building on Success” .

We strongly encourage all Certified Neighborhood Councils to attend and participate by sending board members and stakeholders from your Neighborhood Council area.  The Congress of Neighborhoods provides an opportunity to come together, network and gain valuable information and knowledge for the improvement of our communities. We accomplish this by engaging with City departments and various other government and community entities in workshops and group discussions.

The Planning Group has been working with the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) to organize, develop and execute this upcoming Congress. This event promises to present a variety of workshops and discussion opportunities reflecting the valuable input gathered from Neighborhood Council and community representatives through our various Planning Group meetings in the last several months. 

The success of this Congress will not only prove the organizing capacity that our Neighborhood Councils and community representatives possess, but will give the City assurance that “Yes, Neighborhood Councils Can Do It!” Encourage your board members and stakeholders to participate and get involved in the Congress for the betterment of our communities.

In order to accomplish our goals, we are requesting at least one volunteer (18 years old minimum) from each Certified Neighborhood Council to assist on the day of the event.  Volunteer help will be needed before, during, and after the event for tasks such as set-up, clean up, registration, assisting workshop and discussion facilitators, greeters, location/directional guides, and other event roles. Please contact us at the information below to confirm your volunteers.
