Your Opinion Counts: Neighborhood Council Review Commission's Final Report
Dear Neighborhood Council Friends:
As you all know, the City Council's Education and Neighborhoods Committee (ENC) has been conducting public hearings on the Neighborhood Council Review Commission's (NCRC) final report entitled, "The Neighborhood Council System: Past, Present, and Future." To view the final report, please visit http://www.ncrcla.org/. It is anticipated that the ENC will submit its recommendations to full City Council before the end of 2007.
One major section of the NCRC report concerns the Office of the City Clerk assuming responsibility for conducting neighborhood council elections. The Office of the City Clerk has submitted its response regarding how they would implement neighborhood council elections procedures. The Department of Neighborhood Empowerment urges all stakeholders to review the above-mentioned documents and submit your comments as soon as possible to the Education and Neighborhoods Committee, in care of Patrice Lattimore, Office of the City Clerk, Council & Public Services Division, at Patrice.Lattimore@lacity.org or to Jessyca Avalos of Councilmember Richard Alarcon's Office, at Jessyca.Avalos@lacity.org.
We also strongly urge Neighborhood Council board members to submit their neighborhood council's official position on this issue by using the Community Impact Statement on-line system at http://appla1.lacity.org/cis/. Please remember that this system is for authorized Neighborhood Council representatives only, for providing input to City Committees, Commissions, Boards and the City Council on topics of impact and interest to your Neighborhood Council. If your neighborhood council does not have access to the Community Impact Statement on-line system, please contact Ms. Jacqueline Mendez at Jacqueline.Mendez@lacity.org.
