Re: Mayor Villaragosa's Statement on Morning Earthquake
LOS ANGELES This morning at 11:42 AM, the Los Angeles area experienced a magnitude 5.4 earthquake. The quake's epicenter was about 30 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles, two miles southwest of Chino Hills and nearly five miles southeast of Diamond Bar. The shaking lasted approximately 15 seconds.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa released the following statement regarding this mornings earthquake:
All Angelenos should rest assured that Los Angeles has the best trained, most professional first responders in the nation. They prepare for this type of situation year-round and they are ready for any contingency.
Everyone residing in Southern California lives with the possibility of an earthquake each and every day.
Thankfully, there are no serious injuries or damages to report in the LA area. Our children, schools, offices and highways are safe. Our emergency response personnel have acted swiftly and effectively. Our City and region have emerged relatively unscathed.
This earthquake should serve as a wake-up call to all of Los Angeles and Southern California's families. Now is the time for parents to talk to their children about safety and preparedness, and to develop a plan of action in the event of any emergency.
The City's leaders are here to serve all residents and respond to every incident. We ask for your cooperation and calm as we respond to today's events.
