NEIGHBORHOOD EMPOWERMENT NEWS

Results for the Community Budget Survey Are In
Thank you again to those who participated in the Community Budget Survey. The results of the Community Budget Survey are in and available online. Your Regional Budget Representatives are preparing to meet with Mayor Villaraigosa on Monday, March 16, 2009. The City of Los Angeles is one of the few cities in the country that provides this opportunity for peoples' voices to be heard. This budget process is an important tool to help gauge the community support and provides an understanding of the region and City-wide priorities. We have posters available that show the Board member results of the survey. Please ask your Neighborhood Empowerment Analyst (NEA) for a poster to share the results with your community members and to encourage their involvement in the next budget survey process.

Share Your NC Funding Success Stories!
We are collecting stories about the positive impact the NC funding program has made for neighborhood quality of life issues throughout the City. The funding program is vital to the continued success of the Neighborhood Council system. Please share one or two of your most exemplary projects. We will collect and share these stories with our elected officials so that they fully understand the importance of the funding program. Please limit your response to 200 words or less so that we can compile the stories collected into a succinct yet compelling message. Subjects to be addressed should include:

1) A description of the project and the amount
2) What tangible and positive difference was realized from the use of public funds in your community?

Please submit your success stories to BongHwan.Kim@lacity.org by March 31, 2009.

City Year and Youth
If your NC is looking for a way to engage the youth in your community, check out City Year, a nonprofit AmeriCorps organization whose primary goal is to build democracy in youth from 17 to 24 years old through citizen service, civic engagement, social entrepreneurship and leadership development. City Year members work in 18 cities across the U.S., and there are over 100 members in the Los Angeles area. They are eager youth looking for community projects into which they can channel their energies and are already working with several NC's.
