2003
POLICE UNITY TOUR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The
7th Annual Police Unity Tour begins May 9, 2003. For three days
law enforcement officers from all over the country will bicycle
300 miles from Ground Zero in New York to the National Law Enforcement
Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. to honor officers who have
died in the line of duty.
Three years ago there were only two officers from California (one
was SLO Craig White). Last year there were 20 (including SLO Anthony
Vasquez). This year, so far, there are 18 L.A.P.D and 16 from other
Departments participating.
There is now a Southern California Chapter comprised of officers
from L.A.P.D., Riverside PD, Beverly Hills PD, L.A. Unified School
PD, Oakland PD, Glendale PD and Huntington Beach PD.
The primary goal of the Tour is to raise funds for the National
Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Money raised by the Tour is used
to operate and maintain the Memorial, research deaths of officers
killed in the line of duty, work towards preventing police fatalities
and recognize the anniversaries of all line-of-duty deaths.
The first year the Tour had 18 officers participating and raised
$18,000. Last year 390 officers raised over $250,000. The Police
Unity Tour, Inc. (Tax ID#22-353054100) is a non-profit, 501C(3)
organization.
My Senior Lead Officer is Craig White from Pacific - cell phone
213 / 509-9266. He handles the area from the 10 Freeway on the north
to Venice Blvd. on the south, Bundy/Centinela on the west and Sepulveda
on the east. Anthony Vasquez is the Pacific Senior Lead who covers
the Palms District--Palms/Westside Village. Craig's been the Lead
in our area for nine years. They're both just terrific officers.
Thank you for supporting law enforcement locally and across our
country.
