Your Old Phone Has Value . . .
by Brian Humphrey

Dear Friend
of the LAFD:
During
the recent holidays, countless people took advantage of leaps
in technology, style and price to purchase new cellphones
for their family members. With old phones now deactivated
and collecting dust, we'd like to ask you to consider donating
your no longer needed wireless phone to a good cause.
|
Though many
items can be given to a local thrift store, people are in a quandary
as to what to do with their old wireless phones (the kids tell me
the term "cell phone" is -so- '90's!).
While old cell...
oops!, wireless phones may not have a direct benefit to you, they
can be priceless to those facing domestic abuse or physical disability.
How you ask?
The men and
women of the Los Angeles Fire Department urge you to consider the
CALL-TO-PROTECT Program when disposing of your no longer needed
wireless phone. Such phones are collected, reprogrammed to dial
emergency and assistance numbers only, and donated to victims of
domestic violence and those with special needs. Your old wireless
phone can indeed save lives and your donation can be tax deductible!
We urge you
to learn more by calling (888) 901-7233 anytime or by visiting:
http://www.lafd.org/donateaphone.htm
PLEASE NOTE:
The Los Angeles Fire Department is *NOT* serving as a collection
point for used phones at this time. You can find a convenient donation
center near you by calling the toll-free phone number or visiting
the website above.
Respectfully
Yours in Safety and Service,
Brian Humphrey
