The communities served by CERTs are diverse in the hazards they face and the people who live there, so CERTs are encouraged to have resources that meet their needs. The latest U.S. Census Bureau American Home Survey shows that 25 million individuals were considered limited English proficient in the U.S. CERT Programs must find ways to provide meaningful access to information in languages that represent that community. Take advantage of the free resources we have to help strengthen your CERT.

Train the Trainer
  • FEMA is excited to introduce CERT Train-the-Trainer in a virtual format. By delivering this course virtually, the Agency hopes to reach new audiences and bolster the capabilities of existing CERT teams. Furthermore, FEMA is pleased to offer additional opportunities to enroll virtual course on sheltering operations.
  • Explore these two free courses, offered through FEMA's Emergency Management Institute (EMI). The courses will be delivered completely online via Adobe Connect. There is no cost associated with either course, but students must have a FEMA Student Identification number (SID), a computer with microphone, speaker, and stable access to the internet. FEMA's COVID-19 Vaccine Update Apr

---------
www.FEMA.gov
---------

In alignment with President Biden’s plan to respond to COVID-1, FEMA will work with other federal agencies to coordinate with state, tribal and territorial authorities and private sector partners and others to assist, augment and expedite vaccinations in the United States.

Key Messages
  • As of April 5, FEMA has provided more than $4.5 billion to 42 states, Washington D.C., five tribes and five territories for expenses related to COVID-19 vaccination at 100% federal cost share. These funds cover critical supplies, staffing, training and transportation needs that support increased vaccination efforts.
  • FEMA is committed to the equitable distribution of vaccines. Using data from CDC's social vulnerability index and population data from the Census, we work with our state partners to locate federal pilot Community Vaccination Centers where they will be able to do the most good for the most vulnerable populations and ensure everyone who wants a vaccine gets one.
  • FEMA is working to speed up vaccinations by supporting states as they open community vaccination centers across the country and working with its interagency partners to continue to provide support to additional sites daily. Each state determines its own vaccination priority groups and procedures. Community vaccination centers are led by states, but may be supported by the federal government, including FEMA.
  • Working with state governments, FEMA will open additional federal pilot community vaccination centers, which include federal support and supplemental vaccine allocation.

In alignment with President Biden’s plan to respond to COVID-1, FEMA will work with other federal agencies to coordinate with state, tribal and territorial authorities and private sector partners and others to assist, augment and expedite vaccinations in the United States.

Key Messages

  • As of Feb. 23, FEMA has provided more than $3.81 billion to 35 states, Washington D.C., three tribes and five territories for expenses related to COVID-19 vaccination at 100% federal cost share. These funds cover critical supplies, staffing, training and transportation needs that support increased vaccination efforts.
  • FEMA is committed to the equitable distribution of vaccines and ensuring every person who wants a vaccine can get one. We're working with state, tribal and territorial partners and analyzing data from the CDC and U.S. Census Bureau to locate Community Vaccination Centers pilot program sites to reach underserved populations.
  • Earlier this month, two Community Vaccination Centers opened in California. This week, sites are opening in New York and Texas. Additional pilot sites are opening soon, including four sites in Florida, four in New York and one in Philadelphia.
  • Even as FEMA is focused on supporting vaccination distribution efforts, the agency is supporting multiple disasters, including the disaster declaration for Texas . Since the Feb. 19 declaration, we've awarded more than $5.7 million dollars to survivors. This assistance can help with temporary housing and home repairs and other resources to help eligible individuals and business owners start the recovery process.

In alignment with President Biden’s plan to respond to COVID-1, FEMA will work with other federal agencies to coordinate with state, tribal and territorial authorities and private sector partners and others to assist, augment and expedite vaccinations in the United States.

Key Message

  • FEMA continues to support vaccine distribution efforts, including the opening of the first Community Vaccination Center in California, while responding to the recent winter storms and urging individuals and families to prepare for additional winter weather.

Acting FEMA Administrator Bob Fenton is attending the opening of the first Community Vaccination Center in California today -- at California State University in Los Angeles. The center is focusing on vaccinating underserved and historically marginalized communities. Another pilot Community Vaccination Center is also opening today in Oakland, California. Both centers are designed to administer up to 6,000 vaccines a day. FEMA is providing resources, operational and federal staffing support.

FEMA has now obligated more than $3.38 billion to states, tribes and territories, and Washington, D.C., for community vaccination centers.
