The initiative will be conducted in two parts, and begins this summer
with four (4) two day Conflict Resolution Skills Training Sessions.
The course is designed to provide an exploration of conflict and
resolution techniques, with special consideration given to diversity
factors. The strategies and techniques taught through these sessions
are useful in resolving a variety of conflicts that inevitably occur
in one's personal, professional, or community relations. Sessions
for this part of the program begin July 19th and conclude in August.
The second part of the program is open to those who have successfully
completed one of the series of Conflict Resolution Training. This
six-part diversity education workshop utilizes an interactive format
designed to promote dialogue among participants to increase one’s
awareness of and sensitivity to the complex challenges of building
a diverse community of inclusion and mutual respect. This program
of five (5) evening sessions and one weekend will begin the middle
of September 2003, and conclude during the month of October.
Who should attend? Anyone looking for quality training but having
limited resources will benefit, as will people who are working with
a diverse team to solve neighborhood problems, people who are interested
in taking what they learn in the program and using the skills in
their personal and professional lives, and people who are serving
on community coalitions and boards.

experiences. |

conflict and examine the implications of one's proficiency level
when resolving conflict. |
 |
Identify
cultural and other diversity factors that influence perceptions,
willingness to address and techniques for effectively resolving
conflicts among diverse people. |

2003
Dear Community Members,
As part of its continued focus on pro-active work, The City
of Los Angeles Human Relations Commission is pleased to announce
an upcoming program co-sponsored with the National Conference
for Community and Justice.
The
reason for your inclusion in this email is that you as a community
member, a representative of a Community Based Organization,
or of a Government Entity, are regularly surrounded by individuals
seeking access to various training programs. This is your
opportunity to point them in the direction of this exciting,
no-cost opportunity that will provide them with the tools
to effectively deal with conflicts surrounding the gamut of
issues facing our City. With your database of constituents,
personnel, and private businesses, it is our hope that you
will refer them to this program and encourage them to enroll.
Of course, we would also like to extend this offer to you
as well.
Please review the information we've posted on the DONE Website
at:

listed on the website is the flyer which contains the application
form. If you have any problems opening the attachment or need
more information, please contact:

For those
of you who work for the city, he is listed in GroupWise. Space
is limited to 120 participants total. Translation can be provided,
so please be sure to indicate the need when applying.
One of the most frequent requests our commission receives
is for this type of training. Our goal is to make this an
annual program and with the current budget crisis affecting
all departments, it is imperative that we take advantage of
all the resources that currently exist. This program should
be viewed as one of those opportunities.
We look forward to your participation. Please don't hesitate
to contact me should you have any questions. The Commission
views this program as an opportunity to offer a training that
can benefit all of us, not just in our professional capacities,
but also in how we relate and communicate with one another.
Sincerely,
Arturo Piña
