Use
of excessive force -- use of deadly force
February 13, 2005
Its time for LA PD to stop trying to do damage control for inept
and derelict officers who violate the law. The courts have set the
guidelines for the use of excessive force and deadly force, and
its taught in every police academy.
Officers can only use sufficient force to overcome any resistance,
once the suspect surrenders you handcuff them and its over. As to
deadly force ,its been held that deadly force can only be used to
protect an officer or another person in imminent danger of their
safety.
The officers who flagrantly violate those policies should be immediately
fired. What the district attorney does is another issue for the
DA to figure out.
