of candidates for Temporary Chief
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
|
Here's the list the LA Times came up with on 4/30/02 for Temporary
Chief:
Deputy
Chief Mike Bostic (started his LAPD career in 1973) - currently
filling in as acting chief, and is in charge of recruitment,
hiring and training of new officers |
Deputy Chief Julius I. Davis (joined LAPD in 1967) - currently
in charge of the LAPD's specialized units, including the homicide
detectives, narcotics officers and the SWAT team
|
Commander Tom Lorenzen (in the department over 30 years)
- heads the department's internal affairs unit, and was responsible
for helping plan deployment and policing for the Democratic
National Convention in August 2000 |
Former Deputy Chief Martin Pomeroy (retired from LAPD
last year after 31 years) - worked on a variety of special projects,
including helping draft police reforms as part of a court-mandated
consent decree |
Former Deputy Chief Scott LaChasse (recently retired
after over 30 years) - served as head of the LAPD's South Los
Angeles Bureau, and now works for Paramount Studios on security
issues |
Former Deputy Chief Larry Fetters (retired in 1994) -
was head of human resources for the department, and was given
the task of expanding recruitment for the department during
former Mayor Richard Riordan's tenure |
The Times also mentioned that there was some discussion the possibility
of adding Joe Gunn, the Executive Director of the Police Commission,
to the short list for Temporary Chief, as well as Commander Dan Koenig,
who joined LAPD in 1970 and now works on consent decree issues and
other administrative duties.
