Herbert F. (Bert) Boeckmann II, was appointed by Mayor Richard Riordan
to the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners in the summer of
1993, and continues to be an effectual and influential voice in the
matters of the Los Angeles Police Commission. Boeckmann has previously
served as a Police Commissioner under former Mayor Tom Bradley from
1984 to 1991. During his tenures as Police Commissioner, Boeckmann
has served as both President and Vice President.
As a Commissioner, Boeckmann has been instrumental in: Revising the
Department-wide system of deployment to provide that all areas of
Los Angeles receive equal police response; Overseeing enforcement
and policy matters relative to Official Police Garages; Monitoring
and approving major activities of the Anti-Terrorist Division; and
Reviewing and making recommendations on significant personnel matters
and policies.
Boeckmann is the owner and chief executive officer of Galpin Motors,

Bert Boeckmann and Galpin Ford have been named as the world’s top
volume retail sales performers for the last eleven years in Ford cars
and trucks. Named by Ford Credit, Galpin Ford has achieved the highest
marks in leasing and financing - #1 in the world, again for the last
eleven years.
In addition to Boeckmann’s success with Galpin Ford, his philosophies
of caring and quality service also attribute to the success of the
other Galpin Motors franchises: Galpin Jaguar, which currently ranks
#1 nationally in retail sales; Saturn of the Valley, #1 nationally
in retail sales; Galpin Lincoln-Mercury, #1 in the western region;
as well as Galpin Mazda, Saturn of Santa Clarita, Galpin Used Cars,
Galpin Rent-A-Car and Studio Rentals and their own Horseless Carriage
Restaurant.
Boeckmann’s Galpin Motors, Inc. employs over 830 people and continues
to support the San Fernando Valley and its surrounding communities
as a major employer and growth industry. A new state-of-the-art dealership
facility is currently under construction on Roscoe Boulevard, directly
across from Galpin Ford. With the addition of new franchises and overall
growth, come more opportunities for the people of Los Angeles, in
both the marketplace and through additional employment opportunities.
Boeckmann has been honored with thousands of awards, citations, certificates,
trophies and medals of honor from every private and public sector,
including the nation’s highest award for entrepreneurs, The Presidential
Citation for Private Sector Initiatives, recognizing voluntary public
service. Boeckmann is the first automobile dealer to be twice honored
with the National Retailer of The Year Award by the American Brand
Names Foundation, as well as Time Magazine’s National Quality Dealer
of the Year.
Boeckmann has been also acknowledged by the prestigious and internationally
renowned Horatio Alger Association, as one of the10 most outstanding
individuals in the nation who personifies the principles and values
of hard work, honesty and selfless service to others.
Boeckmann, through his company and the Boeckmann Charitable Foundation,
support hundreds of worthy organizations and causes, including civic
and charitable organizations, churches and synagogues, educational
institutions and many youth programs.
In addition to his preeminent dealerships, Boeckmann also manages
a number of successful ventures throughout the world. His unwavering
commitment to community and charitable efforts continues globally,
as he and his wife, Jane, were responsible for collecting $1 million
in supplies for Mother Teresa, as well as numerous large shipments
of humanitarian aid to Moscow, the Ukraine and other former Soviet
countries. His aid to families of civil war-torn Sierra Leone, West
Africa continues to be generous and caring.
Educated at the University of Southern California, Boeckmann’s contribution
of more than $1.5 million in books and support established the Boeckmann
Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies at USC.
Boeckmann is a man who honors God and puts family ahead of all earthly
endeavors. He is a devoted husband of 34 years to his wife, Jane,
and is a father who has instilled values in his children - those values
that his father instilled in him. He cares deeply for his five children,
their families and his five grandchildren. Two of their sons, Brad
and Beau are making tracks in the automotive industry, with active
roles in the day-to-day management and future growth plans for Galpin
Ford and its growing family of franchises. |
