Silvia Saucedo Commissioner Los Angeles Police Commission Silvia Saucedo
was appointed to the Board of Los Angeles Police Commissioners by
Mayor James Hahn in August of 2001. Commissioner Saucedo is a native
of Los Angeles. Her childhood years were spent in the Pico Union/Rampart
area and she currently resides in Los Feliz. She is an attorney for
the law firm of Nossaman, Guthner, Knox & Elliott.
As one of the youngest Commissioners appointed in the City of Los
Angeles, Commissioner Saucedo already has a long track record of community
service. Throughout her life she has been an active member of the
community and has held its betterment a priority. This desire eventually
led Commissioner Saucedo to the law profession where she could achieve
this goal at a more meaningful level.
Commissioner Saucedo earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree, cum laude,
in History from the University of California at Los Angeles where
she was on the Dean's Honor List, a member of the Golden Key National
Honor Society and a member of the Latino Law Students Association.
Commissioner Saucedo worked throughout most of her undergraduate education.
In addition, she helped strengthen her academic institution by serving
as a Teaching Assistant and by leading workshops targeted to helping
students in academic trouble. Commissioner Saucedo remained active
in her community by serving her community church as a Sunday School
Teacher and a Youth Leader.
She then earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Washington
School of Law in Seattle where she participated in Mock Trial, Appellate
Competition, and the Latino Law Students Association. Of particular
interest to Commissioner Saucedo was the Early Outreach Program which
focused on empowering inner city children. Through this Program she
visited inner city schools and challenged the children to pursue a
post-high school education.
Commissioner Saucedo also worked at an immigrant right's project where
she advised undocumented people as to their immigrant status and immigration
options. She also gained extensive litigation and trial experience
working for the Washington State Attorney General's Office and for
the Office of the Public Defender in Seattle, Washington.
As an Associate with Nossaman, Guthner, Knox & Elliott, Commissioner
Saucedo specializes in the sale, leasing and acquisition of commercial
and undeveloped properties and she represents business entities in
connection with formation, financing and a wide variety of transactions.
She is the youngest member of the Board of Trustees for the Mexican-American
Bar Association. As a Trustee she is dedicated to fulfilling the Organization's
mission statement which is committed to the advancement of Latinos
in the legal profession and the empowerment of the Latino community
through service and advocacy.
Commissioner Saucedo is the daughter of immigrant parents and her
first language is Spanish. She holds these qualities as distinctions
and as honors and is dedicated to ensuring that the Los Angeles Police
Department equally protects and serves every resident of the city
of Los Angeles, regardless of race, gender, age, area of residence,
economic or immigrant status. |
