Letter from a Senior Lead Officer

Here's an email I received from a Senior Lead Officer
(SLO) with many years on the force:

Hi Bill,

I am a long time SLO ... I just wanted to write you this email to tell you how much I appreciate your support and insight of what it will take to bring true community policing to all the communities of Los Angeles.

Your web site is outstanding and will aid in the education of many in our communities and get them to participate in the partnership. As you know it is crucial that more people like yourself join the partnership to make up for the many that will never do anything except complain that nothing is being done for them. An additional link that I have found useful and one you may want to add to your website links is http://www.communitypolicing.org ...

... I tell you, Bill, I feel blessed that I am able to do this job and be able to answer a calling I have had all my life. I'm truly grateful that I am able to fill this vocation on such a large scale ...

I will never give up, for I have seen too many fine folks like yourself give so much and continue to look at the entire situation as the means to an end, with the cup half full or at least 3/8 full.

I also would like to thank you for your unbiased comments and praise for and to the police commission recently. I know the Chief has made some mistakes in some of the decisions he has chosen, and I don't have a personal opinion one way or the other, but believe it or not the residents of Los Angeles are better for many other decisions, especially in the realm of department and officer accountability, professional service delivery and a stronger discipline system that has been lacking for some time. By bettering the systems of accountability, professionalism and discipline, we can begin to gain the trust of the community and only then will we be able to embrace a true community - police partnership.

I ... thank you for your time, support and personal involvement in making a difference in your community.
