Sheriff Baca's Community Day 2005
Saturday, January 15, 2005

LA Community Policing is assisting in the planning of the Sheriff's Community Day 2005. These annual events have become extremely popular. Over 30,000 people will attended!

Sheriff Leroy D. Baca serves as the host of the Community Day activities, which are coordinated by a dedicated staff at Power of Love World Ministries, led by Bishop Edward R. Turner, and the Sheriff's Clergy Council.

LACP's founder, Bill Murray, has been an active member of the Clergy Council for several years.

What is Community Day?

Community Day is an annual event established to share with our community many of the necessities of life they are lacking-namely food and clothing, and to also provide available resources demonstrating a mutual responsiblity and societal interdependence for the less fortunate.

But Community Day is more than that!

Community Day also brings established entrepreneurs offering a myriad of goods and services to this annual event-some offering automobiles, employment, health care and much, much more. Community Day has become a highly anticipated event in the community.

Please check out the Community Day website below.

And don't miss the information about the 5th Annual Multi-Faith Prayer Breakfast, also being held on January 15, 2005! Seating is limited for this popular event (only $20 per person) so be sure to reserve a place early.

This event is attended by representatives from all religious sects: Jewish, Muslim, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians, Scientology, and others. Community Resources
for Community Day

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Sheriff saw the value in Community Day and has embraced it as a part of the Sheriff Clergy Council Program.
We are proud to say that Community Day serves the underrepresented segment of our population in a variety of ways. During each Community Day families are allowed to receive as much food as they can carry away, along with new clothing, shoes, health care services, and employment opportunities.
Community Day is also a venue for entrepreneurs to showcase their goods and services to the community and to network with one another. Employers and prospective employees are brought together with on-site interviews and job offers. We are proud to have 'renters' come to the information seminar on home buying and leave away as homeowners!
As the young people started out 'serving the less fortunate' they remain a vital part of Community Day! Our Youth now have their own open forum where they can hear keynote messages geared for their age group and an open forum to express their concerns and receive vital information as well as showcase their talents and gifts in a wholesome and positive environment.
It is our goal to ignite our community and declare "Community Day" throughout the city of Los Angeles, the state of California and ultimately across the United States!
Things to know:
We are seeking community or social service based agencies who wish to participate in Community Day on January 15, 2005. Here's the simple application:
Community Resources Application.doc
Anticipated attendance: over 30,000 (last year almost 30,000 people attended)
Value: groups of every race, creed, religion, social, and economic status are coming together to give back to the community. Other features of community day include, Camp Can Do (Children's area), Food/Clothing Give-aways, Business Expo, Home-Buyers Expo, Literacy Awareness, Job info, Live Entertainment
No Cost! As long as it is a community-based agency, not a business, a group can have a space free of charge unless it needs electricity ... then a $25 fee applies. No tents/carps are provided, tables and chairs only!
RSVP: Space is extremely limited. Last year many organizations did not RSVP and they had to share or go home. To ensure that this does not happen again, we need to get fax numbers, e-mail addresses, business phone number and address, the name of agency and most importantly the contact person.
When we receive the confirmation we'll call them back to confirm that we received it and thank them for their continued support. We will follow-up with these groups about 10 days prior to the event.
If anyone has questions please call me. Thanks again to everyone for your hard work to make this event the best ever.
Peace,
