EDITOR'S
NOTE: The Citywide
Issues Group (LA
Neighborhood Council's "LANCissues" group) has become
a dynamic force, bringing stakeholders from across the city (and
the Neighborhood Councils they represent) together for common causes.
It now has a website, too. To visit the e-group or website click
here:

Here is our stated Mission, as it appears on the LANCissues website,
and our Yahoo e-group:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mission / Goals / Purpose
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Members of the LANCissues Yahoo e-group are stakeholders from across
Los Angeles who participate in a discussion of the various regional
and citywide issues that may affect their Neighborhood Councils.
We are not directly affiliated with any other group or organization,
but are inclusive, and seek to provide an effective forum where we
can let each other know about the bigger regional and citywide picture,
not our single Council's issues.
In this sense we are primarily a tool, or an ALERT GROUP, and our
main purpose is to inform and educate each other about those issues
we may want to take back to our separate, individual Neighborhood
Councils for their consideration.
LANCissues e-group membership is voluntary to join and voluntary to
leave, and is open to anyone ... but the moderator reserves the right,
on behalf of the group, to deny membership to anyone who behaves in
an unseemly manner. Taunting, diatribes, flaming and attacks will
not be tolerated here, and may result in banishment from further participation.
Finally, the group itself takes no positions on any of the issues,
but individuals may recommend materials from outside entities that
support or refute the issues presented. We request that posts be kept
short and to the point, and that any documents of long length be stored
in the file system provided to all with group membership. Just refer
to them in your post.
More and more stakeholders are becoming engaged in LA's emerging Neighborhood
Councils every day. We hope they will seize the opportunity come together
to discuss those regional and citywide issues that will affect Los
Angeles as a whole, and that many will benefit from having a comfortable
place to share their ideas ... by using this tool, the LANCissues
group.

Membership / Inviting Others
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The original membership consisted of the stakeholders that convened
after a recent Alliance of Neighborhood Councils meeting.
But, in fact, our membership is completely open. Everyone is invited
to be a part of this, and Yahoo provides handy sets of HTML code that
can be easily inserted to an existing webpage, inviting stakeholders
to join us. To see them go to the following URL:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LANCissues/promote
Perhaps our Neighborhood Councils and other groups will consider adding
this simple-to-use invitation to their websites.
I'll be doing so at my own LA Community Policing nonprofit organization
for example, under my well-known website's Neighborhood Council links
(LACP.org). I'll suggest my local Neighborhood Council(s) do the same
thing, and will offer them an invitation.
Otherwise you can just copy and paste portions of the contents of
this post and email it as an invitation to individuals or groups.
Joining / Using LANCissues
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can easily get to the Yahoo Group home by using the URL below:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LANCissues
This is the e-group's home page, where you'll see all group posts
archived.
To invite others to the group, which we encourage, is simple. Just
send them to the URL above, where they can read the group's description
before making a decision.
Otherwise they can go directly to the "sign-up" page:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LANCissues/join
Please feel free to invite anyone in the neighborhood council system
from across the city to participate.
Together we can make a difference in Los Angeles.
Yours in service,
Bill Murray
