Missing Kids - help find them

There are thousands of
children who
do not make it
home each year,
and more who
fall victim to
sexual
exploitation.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, (NCMEC), is a private, (501)(c)(3) nonprofit organization which was created in 1984. The mission of the organization is to serve as the nation's resource on the issues of missing and sexually exploited children. The organization provides information and resources to law enforcement, parents, children including child victims as well as other professionals.

An estimated 800,000 children are reported missing each year – more than 2,000 children every day. An estimated 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually victimized before age 18. Yet, only 1 in 3 will tell anyone. Clearly much more needs to be done.

Community is first line of defense against terrorism - KABC-TV
Call: 877-A-THREAT

(KABC) -- The Los Angeles Police Department says a key part of their preparedness against terrorism is community involvement through the iWatchLA program.

The LAPD knows that community involvement is key to keeping the city safe. That's why the department is launching its iWatchLA program to encourage and educate the public to be alert.

They're the eyes and ears of the LAPD and likely the first line of defense against a terrorist attack. That's why LAPD is reaching out to the public with its iWatchLA program, encouraging the community to report anything suspicious.

CERT - Community Emergency Response Team
Top Stories

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, which allows them to focus on more complex tasks. Through CERT, the capabilities to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters is built and enhanced.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enforces federal laws governing border control, customs, trade and immigration to promote homeland security and public safety.

ICE was created in 2003 through a merger of the investigative and interior enforcement elements of the former U.S. Customs Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service. ICE now has more than 20,000 employees in more than 400 offices in the United States and 46 foreign countries.

The agency has an annual budget of approximately $6 billion, primarily devoted to two operational directorates — Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). These two operational directorates are supported by Management and Administration (M&A) and Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA) to advance the ICE mission.

CrimeMapping.com - We will continue to strive to provide the most accurate and timely crime data available online and we will never scrape information from other sites or sources!

CrimeMapping.com has been developed by TriTech Software Systems to help law enforcement agencies throughout North America provide the public with valuable information about recent crime activity in their neighborhood. Our goal is to assist police departments in reducing crime through a better-informed citizenry. Creating more self-reliance among community members is a great benefit to community oriented policing efforts everywhere and has been proven effective in combating crime.

CrimeMapping.com utilizes an advanced mapping engine, which helps us provide a high level of functionality as well as flexibility to the agencies we serve. Crime data is extracted on a regular basis from each department's records system so that the information being viewed through a Web browser is the most current available. This data is always verified for accuracy and all address information is generalized by block in order to help ensure privacy is protected.

Prevention / Intervention at the point of attack

by Bill Murray

Learning about self-defense may involve everything from learning a few common sense tips and recommendations about personal security to becoming involved in "combat training" .. some of which can be quite demanding physically.

But most important is to become self-aware of your surroundings, taking some basic precautions, and being ready to engage an attacker is a number of techniques designed to allow you to escape as uninjured as possible.
2-1-1 US - phone number that brings people and services together

bringing people and
services together
--------------------------

The essence of 2-1-1 is in its simplicity. Free and confidential, it's for everyone and can be remembered by everyone. 2-1-1 makes the entire human services sector at every level of government work more efficiently, has proven itself time after time as an invaluable resource in the aftermath of a diaster, and is the number to call to give help and to get help.

2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember three-digit phone number that brings people and services together. And 2-1-1 US is the entity that brings together the rich diversity of the national 2-1-1 movement..

LACP.org is grassroots. We're unaffiliated with any other group or organization, and have no particular political point of view. We co-operate with many government offices, law enforcement groups and other non-profit efforts, and frequently offer our expressed opinions of the issues of the day. But we also allow for, and even insist on, opinions from many different perspectives and walks of life.
